73 F700 vin decode
#16
I have one too, if you don't mind: 1FDNK77N9FVA65799
I am looking at buying a truck and it is supposed to be a 1985 Ford F700.
I would like to know first if it is. Second what motor we're talking about. Third a little info for the shipping company. Approximate empty weight with a flat bed, top of cab height, width at front fenders.

1FD = FoMoCo USA, Incomplete Vehicle.
N = Class 6 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating range: 19,500-26,000 lbs.
K77 = F700 with 4WD option and diesel engine.
N = Detroit model DDA 990N or 990T 8.2L (501 cid) V8 diesel engine.
9 = Check digit, FoMoCo use only.
F = 1985.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
A65799 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly (the trucks specific serial number).
There are too many variations to estimate the weight (I wouldn't have a clue, regardless). You'll have to take it to a truck scale.
Ford truck parts catalogs do not list cab/fender and et cetera specs. These can vary wildly from one truck to another considering the gazillion possible variations.

I have an old F700 vin: F70EVGC7485. Call me crazy but would it even make since to put the motor in an 85 F150. I'm not sure what year it is but its been sitting a while. Not locked up but I have no other info on the truck. A vin decode would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

F70 = F700.
E = ?
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
GC7485 = ?
GC7485 decodes to 1980, but there is no E engine code for 1980.
E = If it has a gas engine with 5 valve cover bolt holes per side, it's a 361 FT engine that was not available after 1978.
Verify the serial number, because it cannot begin with GC / Or verify if the engine code is an E.

It was not uncommon for trucks that were ordered from the US to be assembled in Canada. Decoded another VIN/Warranty Plate yesterday for an F100: Ordered from Atlanta, assembed in Canada.
Same jazz applies today: Oakville assembles the Edge, Flex and the rebadged Lincoln versions.

Peeps replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.
If the VIN's don't match, probably none of the following decodes are correct.
F70 = F700 (gas).
F = 391 4V FT engine.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
B10109 = 1976.
212" Wheelbase.

F2M: F2 = Eaton model 15201 Two Speed Rear Axle / 5.83/8.12 / 15,000 lb. Rear Axle Capacity // M = Ford 7,000 lb. Capacity Front Axle with P/S.
