Taking my 2004 in to Ford Dealer for troublshooting/ diagnostics associated with 0611 FICM code. I am also seeing codes for each injector indicating low circuit. I assume these are associated with the 0611 code.

Initial discussion with dealer on the phone said that it could be the injectors however if not both injectors and FICM however, through monitoring my programer trouble codes it throws the FICM 0611 all the time and not the low injector circuit codes.

Truck does experience cold start sputtering if block heater is not plugged in overnight and outside temp is below 80 degrees.

Is it reasonable to have them start with the FICM and then the injectors? I can not afford both/ all at the same time. Also going to talk with the diesel tech about fix for soldering the FICM as I have read about in numerous posts.

Any thoughts on the matter above is greatly appreciated.

 

A bad FICM can cause injector codes to set. Definitely start with repairing/replacing the FICM.

 

you should not have to plug the heater in at those temps.

 

replace only the ficm and retest. do not replace injectors till you have varified the ficm is causeing the issues with ckt hi/low codes for the injectors

 

Thanks for the replies. Dealer replaced FICM and appears to have solved the problem. They are cold starting it in the morning to be sure. $1250 plus tax!!!!!! Ouch.

 

The only reason for plugging in the block heater was to fake out the FICM Heat Induction flash that the dealer installed when I had the 2nd set of head gaskets replaced at 92K miles.
Apparently the Heat Inducation Flash is claimed to possibly be effecting the life of the FICM as the FICM is being subjected to much higher voltage over a period of time.
This worked as with the truck on the block heater if started just like it was at operating temp whereas if it was not plugged in and the temp outside or the block was below 85 degrees it would spit, sputter, and put out black/ white smoke until warm.

 

OUCH is right. I hope they put a complete FICM in it and not a half FICM. A complete FICM is half the price of a half FICM. Complete lists for about $580 and change. Half is $800+

 

tim I would varify that is correct pricing. I think that may warranty prices.

 

Can you elaborate on the difference between complete and half FICM.

I could have purchased the FICM at cost from a Ford parts distributor for $510 plus core however, I did not have the tool to transfer the programing??? My truck is an 04 so warranty is out of the question.

 

Wanted to close my orignal thread. Dealer replaced FICM complete unit and flashed with latest program which according to the Tech does away with the Heat Induction version. Truck runs like a champ. Keeping fingers crossed...... Going to change oil this weekend and use Hot Shot Secret oil additive to hopefully clean the injectors.

You could have gotten the programming from PHP performance there in Georgia for a very nominal fee. They send you a programmer for a fee plus deposit and refund you the deposit when you return the programmer.

The inductive heating is NOT gone, but it has been modified for longevity quite a bit, from what I understand.

 

It sequences the injectors instead of hitting all of them at the same time. Sounds like a minigun under the hood with the initial key on.

 

Leaving work in a few minutes and will listen when I turn on the ignition.
