AC system, location of Evaporator/dryer on 04 Exp.
on a 04 Ford Expedition's AC system with rear air, is their only one AC evaporator/dryer which is located at the rear of the vehicle. Also are there two systems or one system that does the rear and front AC's. It feels like I may need to charge the system because it isn't cool as well as it used to but at the same time it has been about 105 heat index with tons of humidity in the air so the system has been working really hard. Anyone out there had AC problems on there 04 Expeditions. Ours has about 120K on it and is well maintained and used daily.

Good to hear. I was assuming that there was only one. I've looked in the usual locations under the hood and have not located the receiver/dryer. I assume the receiver/dryer is located somewhere on the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Seems like a lot of moisture drips out from that location when running the air. I bet a recharge would get the system back on track.

When you next charge the system add the dye check and after a day or so check the connections for the dye. The o-rings are notorious for leaking.

jdecker,
Man sorry to hear you have a hidden leak. Like Moto Mel say you can go with a dye or find a shop that has a sniffer and can locate the leak. Currently my AC cools really well but not the Meat locker cold like it used to be. My 2000 Harley had a leak at the compressor/clutch assembly and ford wanted 1,000$ to fix it. I bought a new Compressor/Clutch assembly, accumulator/dryer, orifice tube, Two days and total cost 320$ minus the freon. After the system was charged the total cost was right at 400$. Was nice to put the 600$ that ford would have got back into my pockets. Hope you find your leak. One place to check is where the evaporator core connects to the accumulator/dryer.

The last two recharges have included dye - but still can't find it. I do need to find a shop with a sniffer, just don't want to have to go do the dealer. My wife is getting tired of me spending money on it too, the A/C in her car works fine so she doesn't care it's been about 100 outside!
