302 H.O. flex plate will a 351w work?

we have a '79 f-100. the engine is a 302 (5.0 liter) out of an '85 Capri. the Capri was a 5 speed standard.the truck has a c-6 trans. Can we use the flex plate from a 351w(5.8 liter)? The firing order on the '85 302 H.O. is different from the stock 302 that was originally in the truck, so the flexplate won't work. Anyone know what will be compatible?

No, you can't use it, because the imbalance is different on the 82 up 302 than the 81 down 302 and all years 351W. You need to find a C6 flexplate from a later 302, which shouldn't be too hard, because there were lots of the mid-late 80's trucks with a 302 & C6.

Correct on the balance. The older ones are 28oz imbalance and the newer ones are 50oz imbalance. But the firing order has nothing to do with the flex plate. You can use a flex plate from a 351w on a 1985 5.0 HO as long as the 351 flex plate is 1982 or newer (50oz).

Damn, dude you are right. I don't know what I typed up there, at work and doing too much at once. I hope that guy didn't put that flex plate on there! lol.

To my knowledge a 302 never came mated to a C6 but I could be wrong there. Either way here is one for a C4 or AOD for $39 brand new. If a flex plate from C6 to C4 is interchangeable you should be good to go.

The truck originally came with a c-4, but it was swapped out for a c-6. The flex plate was never changed in that swap and it worked good. Now the '79 302 is being swapped out, and the '85 mustang 302 H.O. is going in. The mustang was a 5 speed standard, so thats why we need the new flex plate. I have seen '82 and newer f series trucks with the 302/c-6 combo, so im hoping we can find the correct flexplate to fit .

I had an 87 F150 with 302/C6, and I have seen others, so yep, you're wrong.

Well there ya go. The OP shouldn't have any problems finding an OE flex plate exactly for his application then.
