hey redman84 i have been searching the internet for a 5 speed swap info thread and yours is by far the best. I am very mechanically inclined but i have never swaped a auto for a manuel yet and i was reading and it helps alot but i have some questions. i was wondering what all should i get from a doner truck and what all should i get new i dont have a place to put a doner truck i am staying in a rv park in san leon texas which is by texas city. So i would have to go to the junk yard to get my doner parts. Maybe you can help me out as i need it. I found a tranny from the junk yard here that they say works for 450 but you said your friend also gave you yours in college station how much did he charge and what all does he do to it does it come rebuilt or what. thanks man hope we can help eachother out my truck is a 96 ford f350 7.3 powerstroke and it has a 4 door cab so does that mean i need to yank the drive shaft of a nother vehicle what is also is the same size cab and bed?

You'll need driveshafts from the correct cab/trans truck, or you'll need to have yours modified.

For the swap you'll need:
Trans
clutch/flywheel
Cross member
manual pedal assembly
trans hump (or cut a hole in the auto hump for the shifter)
Manual T-case shift bracket

I feel like I'm forgetting something, but that's all I can think of right now. The only new parts I used for my swap was a clutch and flywheel.

The trans will work.
I dont think the pedals work.
I dont think the driveshafts would work.
Shifter and t-case shifter should work.

I'll try and dig up the wiring when I get some time. Or, you could search for Rebilld's write up. I know it's there. I think the 4&5 pin will need to be moved to 14&15 in the trans harness, and something needs soldered for the cruise to work.

Help please

I put my 1995 7.3 crew cab 4x4 with e4od into a 1996 manual crew cab 4x4. I cannot get the throttle response to happen. It runs. And idles fine. I used the auto pcm etc. The engine harness is still the 1995 auto. I am sure there a reason a few wiring differences like the 5 volt reference wire. Pin 90 and 91? What do I need to do. It is really gotten me to beer 30 many nights. I also want my cruise control to work.

Tcase linkage?

Jacob,
Are you absolutely sure the drive shafts are different lengths?
I've been told by many guys that the E4OD and ZF are the same length and won't change the drive shaft lengths in a swap.
God I hope not, I don't want to mess with my drive shafts...
Since lengths are different and position of the transfer case is changed, how bad does that affect the linkage for the shifter?

Very interested in the wiring as i am swapping out of a 91 to 97. I know the pedals wont work and i ordered an assembly on amazon. Also would like to know if i need to reinforce the firewall for the clutch.

Did you come up with a wiring Diagram? I am currently in to a 91 manual to 97 swap. I have all the parts but would like the cruise and lights to work.

Yeah buddy! It is pretty sweet having it in mine. I wish my final drive gear wasn't quite as low but still have no complaints. I think a ZF 6 speed would be so cool in an obs as well.[/QUOTE]

I was curious about that as well. My axel ratio is 4.10 and the manual came out of a 3.55 See any issues?

Driveshaft

Do you think some kind of spacer could be used at the differential yoke with longer bolts to take up the extra slack instead of finding/modifying driveshaft?

Why do you advise against it, if I may ask? After posing this question last night I did some searching and it seems such a part already exists, though it seems to be used most often on the output shaft yolk. I keep racking my noodle as to why it would present an issue and I can't come up with anything.Thanks.

Be just as easy to take the truck to a shop that does it and have a driveshaft made. Less extra pieces means less likely to fail. It does not seem safe to me to extend the yoke with a plate like I’m understanding it
