ahh man.. y'all are scaring the bejesus outta me.. I just got an 06' 6.0 after driving a 5.4 250 for a decade, the entire time seeing and dreaming of PS's all day every day.. and now, what I'm learning from all this is: basically I need to either become a mechanic... or.. become rich in order to hire a live-in mechanic? I looked for a 7.3, and they're there, just not in my ideal set-ups, mileage, etc.., and I've certainly heard the horror stories about 6.0's, but my faith/trust/love in and for Ford told me, "these guys are hypersensitive to these issues, being that they're probably..mechanics themselves.. it'll be a good truck, keep it simple(as far as mods go), and we wont blow anything up, or throw anything..". Now I'm scared to crank it..Terrified to get a gauge to find out my coolant is 15 degrees different than my oil..****!! Guess I'm drivin the old beater Ranger today.. (mostly kidding & nervous but excited about the whole thing)
Starting to wonder if I bit off more than I can chew. With all the maintenance, hard to keep track. Be nice if there was an "App for that", really. I looked and could not find any apps that would track maintenance, give me a heads-up when time to drain the fuel thingy or flush the coolant, or flush the tranny, or change the oil. Anybody out there know of an app? I have looked. Anybody out there write apps? I would pay $10 or $20 for a decent app for my phone.

Looking at a 2005 F350 CCLB with the infamous 6.0. Not terribly afraid of it but....
HEre are the details:

been a fleet truck used mostly to drive to and from job sites. Big company with a full maintenance division that took good care of her. Injectors have been replaced but no other major repairs, just general maintenance.
Cold start no trouble, about 2 seconds of blueish smoke to white to clear....what is that sound of rushing air coming out of the tail pipe?
Truck runs strong, no rattles etc, front end was tight. No visible leaks etc.
$10500....no bed on it currently.
Oh, and when I revved it at the top of the rpms some black smoke....not while driving though.
THoughts?

Blue is oil, maybe valve seals? White is unburned diesel - Could be a bad glow plug or GP harness. The rushing air is the VGT turbo. Normal to hear it like that.

VGT unison ring is likely stuck. Check codes for overboost/underboost codes.
