SEIZED UP 2006 F150

My 2006 F150 with 77k seized up on friday. Sounds like a bad injector flooded the engine, caused hydrolock, and then bent a rod. I called the dealership today and they said the only fix is a new engine. Does anybody have any experience with getting a problem like this fixed and I thought I heard the 2005's had this problem and Ford extended their warranty? Need suggestions!!! I have 3 payments still left and now the dealership is telling me I gotta buy a new engine for $5,800.00.

What I was wondering is had anybody had this issue and was able to have to engine fixed instead of replacing it? The dealership said that the 5.4L Triton engine was just better to replace, but I was really hoping to hear from someone that had sucess just fixing it instead.

if the cause was the injector there is a program that covers the injector and all related damage
07m08 is the coverage program number

Michael A. Berardi Ford Motor Company
Director P. O. Box 1904
Service Engineering Operations Dearborn, Michigan 48121
Ford Customer Service Division
August 1, 2008
TO:
All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers

SUBJECT:
Customer Satisfaction Program 07M08 – Supplement #1:
Certain 2005 Model Year F-150, F-Super Duty, Expedition, and Navigator Vehicles
with 5.4L 3V Engines – Extended Warranty Coverage on Fuel Injectors

Ref:
Customer Satisfaction Program 07M08 – Dated December 11, 2007
Certain 2005 Model Year F-150, F-Super Duty, Expedition, and Navigator Vehicles
with 5.4L 3V Engines – Extended Warranty Coverage on Fuel Injectors

REASON FOR THIS SUPPLEMENT
Based upon dealership technician input, the service procedure has been revised and labor allowance
increased for the repair of the Expedition and Navigator vehicles. The service procedure and labor
allowance for the repair of the F-150 and F-Super Duty remain the same.
PROGRAM TERMS
This program extends the warranty coverage on the fuel injectors to 11 years of service or 120,000
miles from the warranty start date of the vehicle, whichever occurs first. Coverage is automatically
transferred to subsequent owners.
VEHICLES COVERED BY THIS PROGRAM
Vehicle Line Model Years Assembly Plant Production Dates
F-150 2005 Dearborn Assembly Plant Job #1 2005 – Job Last 2005
F-150 2005 Norfolk Assembly Plant Job #1 2005 – Job Last 2005
F-150 2005 Kansas City Assembly Plant Job #1 2005 – Job Last 2005

F-Super Duty 2005 Kentucky Truck Plant Job #1 2005 – Job Last 2005
Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS.
REASON FOR PROVIDING ADDITIONAL COVERAGE
In some of the affected vehicles with 5.4L 3V engines, the fuel injectors may stick open or closed.
This concern could cause the check engine light to illuminate along with a hard starting and/or rough
running engine condition. In some instances, continued engine operation with a stuck open/closed
fuel injector could result in powertrain damage.

SERVICE ACTION
If an affected vehicle experiences any of the conditions listed above, dealers are to perform the
specific diagnostic procedure in Attachment III using Special Service Tool Kit# TKIT-2007FI-FLM
which were shipped to dealers at no cost in December of 2007. If the vehicle concern is found to be
caused by a stuck open or stuck closed fuel injector, the fuel injector will be replaced on affected
vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
PLEASE NOTE: This extended coverage program only applies to stuck fuel injectors and
related damage caused by stuck fuel injectors. During diagnosis, if other concerns not related
to stuck open or closed fuel injectors are found, they are not covered under this program and
are the responsibility of the customer if the vehicle has exceeded the time and mileage of any
other applicable warranty coverage. Customers who received letters announcing 07M08 and
bring their vehicles into the dealership for any reason should be advised that this program
only covers repairs related to defective injectors. The owner letter informs customers of this
issue.

Hey Michael,
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately the info you posted was for the 2005 F150' s and mine is a 2006 and I believe there is no campaign on the 2006 models. Have you hear of this problem on the 2006's? Was there a different injector used on the 06 versus the 05? I love my Ford truck. It was the first brand new and american made car I have every bought and this is breaking my heart.

You've got something i've never heard of on an 06.....not to say its not happened but i've never heard of it. Sadly, you are probably looking at a new engine.....i'd check out what some of the online places charge for a shortblock (or long block) and see what a private mechanic would charge to swap it out.....

Maybe sell it outright to try and recover some of your costs. If its clean people will pay good money for a nice truck that all they have to do is install a motor.

A motor really dosen't have to be that expensive........like I said a short block could be had for under 1500 and a good shop shouldn't charge you all that much more to have it put in....

I have fixed a few by replacing the rod. If its on the driver's side you can pull the head with the engine in the truck and drop the pan. Passenger side I would lift up the cab to pull the head. Some 2006s have the bad injectors but the recall only covers 2005s, go figure.

Thanks for the info Longbed. I will pass the info along to the guy at my garage. I actually called Ford today and talked to a nice lady but they weren't able to offer me any help. I am still wondering what the difference is between the 05 injectors and the 06.

Does the guy work on Fords a lot? I wouldn't let just anyone put a rod in your truck. I would compare labor rates with the dealer and let the dealer do it if possible. There can be a large difference in rates between dealers. The dealer I used to work at charges $105/hr and the new one charges $85/hr and they are only 15-20 miles apart. The dealer I'm at now is cheaper than some independent shops around.
