1995 V6 3.O AUTOMATIC, MY SONS GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING,SHE SAID IT WAS RUNNING FINE UNTIL SHE PULLED INTO A QUICK TRIP GAS STATION.WHEN SHE CAME OUT SHE CRANKED UP AND WHEN SHE PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE THE ENGINE CUT OFF.
THE AEROSTAR IS BEING TOWED TO MY HOUSE,IT SHOULD BE HERE BY NOON.IT WILL BE EASIER FOR ME TO CHECK.I WILL TURN OFF THE OD AND CHECK THE 2ND AS SOON AS IT ARRIVES.THANKS AND I WILL POST AS SOON AS I CAN.
After you get to try it out you will be more able to diagnose the problem. Could be a fuel problem also. Enough fuel to idle but not enough to pull a load. I'll be interested to see if you can rev the rpm's up when in park or if the vehicle stumbles. Also lets hope it isn't a computer problem. Let us know more when you look at it.
Cranked up the van,it revs up fine in park. Also on the column its park/reverse/nuetral/od/drive/2nd/1st.It will stall in any position except park or nuetral.
Is the CEL lit???? if so pull & post All of the trouble code Numbers.
Maybe try disconnecting the IAC, the engine may idle rough or stall, but you can keep it going with a little accelerator pedal, then see if it'll move wihout stalling.
If not, switch the OD Off & shift into all gears.
If no joy, I'd suspect the torque converter clutch is locked up, thats sorta like leaving a straight drive in gear when coming to a stop.
How is the tranny fluid condition????

NO LIGHTS ARE ON THE DASH,DISCONNECTED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR,WHEN YOU PUT IT INTO GEAR IT MAKES A LOUD CLANKING NOISE AN QUITS.ASHLEY JUST TOLD ME WHEN SHE PULLED INTO THE STORE THE VAN STARTED VIBRATING PRETTY BAD AND ALL THE GAUGES WERE JUMPING AROUND.
Did she get gas at her last stop and thereafter it started acting up? Maybe water in the gas. Try a bottle of dry gas in tank. Also try cleaning MAF sensor and/or look for a leaking vac line.
Well we don't have enough vehicle history to jump to that conclusion just yet & I'm not a tranny guy, I know just enough about em to be dangerous!!!! lol
You likely need input from a Ford tranny tech.
Is the OD light on, or flashing????
Did you ever try turning the OD OFF, by pushing the switch on the end of the shift lever, until the OD Off light in the dash comes on, then trying to shift into gear????
This is supposed to deactivate the torque converter lock up solenoid/clutch, so maybe exercising the OD switch would wake something up?????
Has this vehicle had any tranny problems or repairs before this event????
