F-150 V8's 2011 and beyond?

I am hearing alot of talk about the new Ecoboost engine's for the 2011 F-150's. The 3.5L Turbo that give's V8 power with V6 mpg. It sounds promising, But I am hearing so much about the Ecoboost V6 that I am starting to worry if Ford is going to put a new V8 in the F-150. I have heard lots of rumors about the 5.0L but I haven't heard a confirmation yet. You could call me a traditionalist, I personally would rather have a N/A V8 vs a Turbo V6 even if it cost me a little extra at the pump. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I am planning on buying a 2011 F-150 in the next 6 months to year. And I've done quite a bit of research online trying to learn what I can about this truck and its new engine offerings. This is how I have managed to put it together so far.

3.7L Ti-VCT - V6 will serve as a base engine in late 2011 as 2012 models. Not sure if its power numbers will falter any from what it puts out in the 2011 Mustangs.

3.5L Ecoboost V6 - I've heard rumors that this engine might put out 340hp and 340lb/ft of torque, and I've also heard it might produce 400hp and 400lb/ft of torque. Seems like lots of sites are referring to this as a premium engine, I assume that means it will be like a top offering amongst new engines.

5.0L Ti-VCT V8 - I haven't heard to much about this engine except that it is highly rumored to serve in the 2011+ F-150's and that Ford is testing this engine amongst all models of F-150 from XL all the way to Platinum. The most recent forum I read dated a few months ago stated that the 5.0L would offer 350hp and 400lb/ft of torque in F-150 guise.

6.2L Boss V8 - I've been on a few sites that seem to suspect this engine will play a role specific to high end F-150's such as the Harley Davidson F-150, and The Platinum F-150's and of course the Raptor. I've only heard from one source that it would be offered in all models of F-150.

So far that's what I know. And I apologize for this forum being so long. And if you have taken the time to read threw all of it I would really appreciate it if anyone that might have anything a little more concrete than I do or anyone that's just curios like me would share information. I am somewhat distressed about this, As I have been planning since I was a kid to buy a brand new F-150 (I'm a Long term Ford man) And It was always my dream to get a V8 F-150. It would be nice to get a 350hp 5.0L over a 310hp 5.4L. I've even considered buying an F-250 next year just to get the 6.2L If the F-150's no longer come with V8's. But everything about the engines seems kind of uncertain now. But thanks for any reply's.

I'm holding out for the 5.0. I think it will work out nice with the 6 speed. Very curious as to what gear ratios will be offered with it and how the low end torque will be. Also what the fuel economy numbers will be.

I am glad to hear the 5.0L is apparently on track for the F-150. I was really fretting the idea of F-150's being confined to just V6's.

I really like the idea of having a V6 truck that will blow away a Hemi

Your dealer is speculating. Ford has told him nothing. However, I too will speculate and say he is right.

But for the 45th time, they only start building them in late Nov. (subject to change)

In the youtube vid with the Ford EB guy (you know the one they cut off before it gets real good) The ford rep clearly says it will be class leader in towing and MPG. So I think 400/400+ are much more likely.

I think the 3.5 EB will have more power and more torque than the 5.0, and should be listed above it. I think it would rival the 6.2.

I think you would be very surprised about the power that can be had with a turbo v6. My sister has the RDX and that can really get up and go and that is nothing but a turbo V6. I don't even think acura has a V8 in their lineup at all.

In the end, I don't care if it's a turbo V6 or a true V8, it's the performance of that respective engine that I'm concerned about. If I can use a turbo V6 to get what needs to be done with my 150, then I'll go for it. If I still require a true V8, then I'll go that route.

I think Ford is staying real quiet so as to not sabotage 2010 sales. I think the hype will begin as current inventories start to dwindle.

I believe the EB 3.5L will come with a hefty upcharge. I'm not willing to pay that fee even if it does get 25% better mpg's than the 5.4. Hell, everything gets better mileage than the 5.4.

What they have not yet said is if it gets 25% better mpg's than the 5.0L. That's the engine that I've been holding out for.

No, not everything. Even as pathetic as the mileage is on my 5.4, it still does better then the 6.0. Now granted my 6.0 weighs a lot and has 4.30 gears, but it still gets less mileage then the 5.4.

I know I read somewhere that the upcharge for the EB will be about the same as going from a 4.6. to a 5.4. Can't find the source but I usually have a pretty good memory.

The RDX has a Turbo I-4, not a V6, but it is a peppy motor none the less

I could have sworn they took the engine out of the MDX and did all that extra stuff to it. Unless, of course, I'm halfway right and they did just take the engine out of the MDX, but it's an I-4 not a V6.
