Condensor cleaning??? 2005

When I had my truck in last time for an oil change the service man told me that I needed to get my evaporator cleaned as it has a bunch of stuff in it. He siad it would be $150. I don't see how cleaning somehting should be $150. Can someone tell me where to look and what parts I need to take out to clean the evaporator. Thanks

OK... I was completely way off target. I mean the condensor not the evaporator... Sorry.

AS in the AC evaporator?!?! If that is what you are talking about it is the little grill that looks like a small radiator in the front of the truck some place it might need power washed or hosed down to get dirt and bugs out of it and you might want to get a fin comb and straighten out some of the cooling fins.

Where do you get your oil changed? Many of the quick lube places try and make money on random stupid things like trying to sell spark plug to guys with PSD.

When I was in custom harvesting, I had to clean the evaporator out on a regular basis due to all the bugs/dust/chaff. Just go to a car wash, and go in through every opening in the grill and bumper, and spray it out. Be careful to keep the wand 90 degrees and at least 6" away from the evaporator to prevent damaging the fins.

To clean the evaporator you need to remove the intire dash....Im assuming you guys are refering to the condensor......not the evaporator.

He said evaporator not the condenser. As for cleaning the condenser make sure the drain hose is clear and and you should have no problem. If you want you can spray lysol or by a AC disinfects spray and turn your air on high and spray it into the climate control air intake NOT THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE then shut off truck and let it sit over night

You are correct.. I did mean condensor not the evaporator. Can this affect air flow? I will get the title changed.

I get my oil changed at the Ford dealership.. They told me that it was real dirty last time I had it in.

Yes they can get stopped up and affect a/c performance and engine cooling. Its something you can clean yourself.

You have them confused. If a condensor has a drain hose you have serious problems

So where behind the dash should I be looking? Can the panel around the radio be removed or do you also have to remove the lower panels of the dash as well???

OK totally confused... What in the world were they wanting to clean?? The condensor is at the front of the truck and can be cleaned with a power washer. What is behind the dash that needs to be cleaned every couple of years? Sorry, but have no clue to AC systems

Im quite sure its just a miscommunication. Im sure they were refering to the condensor, which is located in front of your radiator, which is somewhat common to get nasty and full of dead bugs and junk. The evaporator should not require any servicing.

Condenser

Evaporator

What is the part called where the drain hose comes down from where the water drips out of the AC that is the part I thought they where saying needs cleaned.

By the way the OP worded it yes, the evaporator (in the dash) needed to be cleaned. This is not something that "needs to be cleaned" hence the reason I was questioning if it was a confusion, meaning that the condensor needs to be cleaned, which he clarified.

This quote is what I was correcting you on:

"He said evaporator not the condenser. As for cleaning the condenser make sure the drain hose is clear and and you should have no problem. If you want you can spray lysol or by a AC disinfects spray and turn your air on high and spray it into the climate control air intake NOT THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE then shut off truck and let it sit over night"

And this:

"AS in the AC evaporator?!?! If that is what you are talking about it is the little grill that looks like a small radiator in the front of the truck some place it might need power washed or hosed down to get dirt and bugs out of it and you might want to get a fin comb and straighten out some of the cooling fins."

That is backwards.

Next they will be offering you nitrogen for your tires. Find another garage for your truck servicing.

Unless you spilled something down a vent, the truck is flood damaged or you are getting a funky smell when you turn on your AC, your evaporator does not need cleaning.

Your condenser might need cleaning, but you can do that yourself as mentioned above.
