55F250/460/sanderson headers/right side/clearance

I've been searching for hours for someone with a picture of the right side to see how much clearance they have, I know it's going to be tight, just wanted to see what others have.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not all bad, its fixable. Your engine is sitting too low. I am doing a 460 in a 51 f1 and have been collecting pictures; here are two from my files. There are more from stillwell (spelling?) and john and others on this site too.

2 ed pic is in a '48. What do you think?

My princess, replace it, how can you replace it? Mustang II IFS do not have a steering box. (It really is a good swap)

Anyway NONE of these pictures are of my truck, just reference information.

Firist picture two pictures are for Julie, what it would be like in a perfect world (no steering box see above) and with a Toyota box and mashed / smashed headers (not mine).

The next three show how high the 460 can sit, number one is in a '56, number two is a mess, and the third is fishalbq (sp) from this site, a little closer to the frame?

Man am I good, or what, .............and humble too!

When I set the engine up for location I used the original radiator and shroud, the fan was in the location it needs to be, in the fan shroud opening.
I'm having a little bit of a clearance issue at the slip-yoke on the trans (C6) where the support bearing for the original 2 piece driveshaft was. If I was to raise it up I would really have problems, but if I have to I have to, nothing has been welded up, just seeing how things fit. Thanks for the pic's

There seems to be a difference in the right side header picture Old F1 shows and mine. Could this be the/one of the problems?

Well, you have the correct ones for your truck, (53- up) BUT the earlier ones do have a different bend. (48-52). I wonder if the ¾ ton frame is taller?

This is Sanderson’s web page (from their much improved web site) showing the 460 headers. The ff462 might work better?

Sanderson Headers for Ford Big Block V8 engine applications.

I don't know about the frame being taller? Longer yes. I went to the Sanderson website and compared, the tube configuration they show is different from what you show and what I have. Not sure what's up with that. The pictures here are both the FF461 and FF462,I turned them upside down to show how they should bolt up.

It could be the angle of the picture bit looks like the right (pass) 56 one sits lower at the rear (outlet) relative to the rear port flange, so maybe the f1 ones sits higher there (it has a kick up in the middle as well) ?

I have a set of f1 ones, maybe you could bring you engine / frame up?

Could you ask Sanderson?

Well first of all, goof, ya didn't say you had a MII IFS in the original post so I was wondering how you got the header on the other side in that 5" square box between it and the motor mound and the frame/block sides.

But also, I'm noticing that all of these engines you have a sitting about 3 inches higher that the 390 in my truck - which is as high as it could go. That makes quite a bit of difference with exhaust on the drivers side. And the other picture (with the Toyota steerin gbox) also answers the other question.

So, the answer to my question which was really "how did you run the exhaust on the drivers side, and did you modify out or elliminate the stock steeing box" was "yes!"

A couple other things I've noticed is that your 460 motor mount locations are about an inch or two inches farther forward than my 390.

Lastly, the headers you showed are different then the OPs. Yours turn straight back and in toward the engine, and his cant down toward the frame slightly and are straight. different animals. And with these trucks an inch makes a big diff.

I was curious what yo did. Thaks for the pics ad answering my question(s)

Yep, your right, I pulled the header off and sat it on the floor, looks just like the one in the picture (FF461) I'll make these work, shoot, got a good 1/4" gap, gotta figure out what to do with the slip-joint on the trans, that's a little to close for me.
