rear end swap 86 f150
I am contimplating a rear end swap in my 86 f150. I have access to a 9" rear from a 73 lincoln continental w/ 30 gears in it. My question is , does anyone know what is the width on the 9" continental rear in 73 ? I believe the 8.8 in my truck is 65.25" wide. Just curious if the 9" will bolt directly in and if any modification is needed

I have never done this swap, but can pretty much guarantee it's not going to bolt in from a car application. The wheel bolt pattern is not going to be correct either. The 9 inch rearends to fit this truck are too common to go to the trouble to make it fit. Most of the early models starting in 1980 had 9 inch rears, and they will bolt in, but will probably require you to modify your driveshaft length. You could buy the proper truck 9 inch, and then swap the center section from the car into the truck IF they have the same axle spline count. Most of the trucks have 31 spline axles.

Yeah , i figured as much. i just thought it was worth a try because i can get the rear for 150 bucks. The gears were just installed about 6 months ago too. It's a friend of mine and he just wants to get rid of it. He is going in a different direction w/ it. I would like to find a rear w/ steeper gears already in it. i currenly have the 3:55's in it , trying to find one w/ 3:73-4:10 already in it w/out breaking the bank.
