Question about headrest DVD in 2011.....

Anyone have any info on the headrest DVD screens on the 2011 Expeditions? 1) Will the large DVD control box (??) that is present on the ceiling in the 2010 go away freeing up room and forward visability from the back? 2) will the new front headrests (with the DVD screen) be more upright than the (severely) tilted forward 2010 headrests?

Compared to my 2005 EB, sitting in the middle seats of a 2010 Limited and EB recently almost made me feel clostrophibic with the the DVD box handing from the ceiling, the middle part of the ceiling sticking way down to accomodate (larger"") air vents, etc.

Thank you......

I have heard that the large DVD up the ceiling is going away for 2011s. However, I do not know if they will change the headrest design to accommodate the new headrest DVD monitors. If not, at least, I would expect the DVD monitors to be able to be adjustable for viewing.

Here's a response I received from another Forum. Makes sense.

" I would assume they will be very similar to these headrests shown for the new Taurus:

They look like totally self contained units so I would assume the roof mounted box would be completely gone on the 2011. The 2011 Expedition order guide says "Invision Headrest DVD system....replaces overhead Rear Seat DVD Entertainment System available in prior model years." As far as the angle of the headrests, I am not sure. I think the forward tilt of the headrests has to do more with new government crash regulations for whiplash than design styling"

I have a 6, 4, and 2 year-old that ride around in our 07 EL Limited. The two older kids sit in the third row while the youngest occupies the driver's side second row seat. I like the older ones sitting over the rear axel as there is a measure of safety with the axel to absorb some side impact if it should happen.

From their vantage point, head rest dvd players would do them no good as they would be non-visible from their seats. I am not too keen on the head rest mounted dvd system.

Just my 2-cents

I have headrest DVD players in my EL. they work great for the 2nd row...but.

the 3rd row kids can't see the 2nd row screens. I'm going to purchase an OEM center drop-down screen soon and tie it into my headunit and headrests. that way the back row can see at the same time.

the issue with putting screens in the headrests for the 3rd row is the folding function of the 2nd row seats. they get pretty beat up by the kiddo's daily when laid down so they can get into the 3rd row. I'm 99% certain a screen in that headrest would get broken quickly...thus the upper center monitor.

another option would be to install drop down screens above the 2nd row outer seats. if you set them right, they would be almost perfect veiwing angle for the 3rd row, and the 2nd row passengers wouldn't have the screen hitting in the head

Does anyone know if having the rear aux air option kill the ability to install a ceiling drop down DVD unit?

I'm not sure if there is any ducting in the ceiling that may impede installation where the OEM one would go.

I was contemplating installing headrest units but with all the negatives (headreast angle, and broken LCD) i maybe looking towards an alternative.
