Bumper shopping

My truck has a winch bumper up front and a diamond plate step bumper in the rear and I want to ditch both and replace with chrome ones. The front bumper was bolted and welded to the frame so that'll be fun to cut off.

I'm looking on LMC truck and there's 2 front bumper options depending on the serial number of the truck. Where is that number? Part of the vin? 73 f250

Yes, part of the VIN, I don't remember which numbers, but it's at the end, maybe the last 5?

heres the warn winch hopefully sell it as a package. it works great, just looks weathered. needs a new fairlead, i suggest a nylon rope with a billet aluminum fairlead.

from the LMC site, it looks like there is only 1 option for a front chrome bumper for a 73, am i correct?

Premium Chrome Replacement Bumpers | 1973-79 F100 - F150 - F250 1978-79 Bronco | LMC Truck

now for the rear, it has 2 options. one with a 36.5" frame rail width, and the other with a 40" width. i went out to my truck and measured the inside of the framrails, (also where the gastank is mounted), and it was almost 35". would i be safe to say that the 36.5" one is the one i need? that is PN 49-9542 "D".

Not bad but not quite what I had in mind. Thanks for the pic though.

There are 4 pick in pulls here in the sac area and I do run into nice chrome bumpers often. It
might be worth the trip for you. I have found all kinds of cool crap in those yards.

Any thoughts on which rear bumper I need? And where can I find bumper brackets?

Rear bumpers up to something like 95 fit. Might have to fab up a bracket but there all about the same width.

I just want the clean low profile chrome bumpers from LMC but can't figure out which rear one I need, the 36.5" or 40" bolt width. I also don't know where to find stock bumper mounts

As usual, LMC has no clue.

There are two different chrome front bumpers, but the serial number (last 6 digits of the VIN) has nothing to do with either.

What does make a difference if it's a Ranger XLT or not.

C4TZ-17757-B .. Chrome Front Bumper / Reproduced

Applications: 1964/77 F100/350 except 1973/77 F100/350 Ranger XLT.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
D3TZ-17757-A .. Chrome Front Bumper-Use with R/L horizontal bumper pads / Obsolete

Applications: 1973/77 F100/350 Ranger XLT. This bumper has rectangular slots in it for the bumper pads to snap into.

Again...LMC is clueless: No such thing as 36.5" or 40" rear frame rails!

33 1/2" width between the inner rear frame rails-behind the cab: 1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boys) / 1973/79 F350 Regular Cabs on the 140" wheelbase.

37 1/2" width between the inner rear frame rails-behind the cab: ALL 1973/79 F100/350's except as noted above.

Every reproduction parts seller carries the same bumpers, so If you don't wanna mess with LMC, try NPD (National Parts Depot), Blue Oval Truck Parts, Mac's, Auto Krafters, Dennis Carpenter, the Truck and Car Shop.

And...if you want to see what the bumpers look like in person, and/or not have to pay shipping charges from KS (LMC) to CA

CA = NPD (Ventura) / Blue Oval Truck Parts (Anaheim) / The Truck and Car Shop (Orange).

Info source for Ford part numbers and rear frame rail width jazz: 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.

Awesome thanks a lot! So I'm looking in blue oval truck parts and the 2 rear bumpers I find for a 73 highboy have the options of 37.5" and 40" center mount holes. Since my highboys has the 33" frame rail width, would it use the narrower bolt hole center bumper?
