ecm question
Hello all, i recently had my 2003 f-250 with a 6.0 powerstroke at a repair shop because the truck had poor acceleration. Well after cleaning the turbo the tech ran a scan on it and it came up with a code for a faulty ecm (can't remember the code). There was another vehicle same as mine in the shop, so they swapped out ecm's and my truck ran great. My question is, since there are a bunch of different ecm's for the same year truck, can I just get an ecm for any 2003/2004 powerstroke and have it re-flashed? The reason for my question is that i can get an ecm for the same year but different part # for a good deal. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to use a ecm from a 2003 in my 2004. It was not compatible. Even worse after it was reprogrammed. It set some serious codes. A long list of them. It had a 3xxxxxx series number. I was good to go with a 4xxxxx series number ecm. In fact the used one that I bought was so good that I sent my original off for the reprogramming back to original specs and kept the other as is.
