My first month as a Powerstroke owner....Lots of pics
First off I wanted to say thank you for everyone's advice.
I would have had a much harder time doing these upgrades
and repairs without the collective knowledge here on FTE.
So here's my first month as a Powerstroke owner.....
First off here's a list of everything I did.
1. New intercooler boots
2. New van 1.00 exhaust housing
3. Turbo rebuild
4. Wicked wheel install
5. Foil delete
6. New uppipe and downpipe clamps
7. IH bellowed pipes
8. Painted Compressor housing, IC tubes, and intake spider
9. RiffRaff Plenum inserts
Here's my turbo shaft fresh back from Pete's after balancing
Compressor housing primed using VHT primer
Compressor housing with VHT silver paint
As you can see I got alot of bubbles during the curing process.
This was my first attempt at painting engine parts ever.
I think it may have been to humid outside when I applied the paint.
That's my guess anyways.
After following bdrummonds turbo rebuild guild, one freshly rebuilt turbo
Old uppipes. I actually didn't have any leaking pipes when I tore everything apart.
But after talking with Clay about how to get the y-collector and the turbo to line up, I decided to go ahead and replace them just in case.
As it turned out, they were so badly deteriorated that I was able to pull the passenger side pipe straight out without taking the flange off.
Painted IC tubes
Yes I realize my coolant is low
Everything back together
I realize there are some gaps in this little story, but I lost alot of the pics I took when tearing everything apart.
And here is the required new owner pics of my truck.

Congrats. That all looks like money well spent without making the typical diesel rookie mistakes of falling for all the advertising in those magazines about less than ideal mods.
One question, why did you need to rebuild the turbo? How bad did the intake wheel look? Any plans to change the air filter? K&N filters don't usually play well with our turbos. I'd hate to see you dust your new turbo wheel.

Your K&N filter will do just fine IF you service it properly. My son used one for a few years but he serviced it meticulously and it actually had less dust in the tube than the 6637. But, because of the "hassle" of having to service it regularly, he went back to the 6637. The K&N tube works well for the change over.
Oh yeah. Very nice job on the mods. Just adds to an already good looking truck.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am pretty happy with the results, even if the repairs and upgrades aren't real "showy". I want this truck to last for a long time.
My wife wasn't to happy about the costs, especially after I decided to get the IH pipes, but she understood if I didn't do it now I would just have to pull everything apart
When I initially called Pete about buying a new pedestal and high-flo outlet we got to talking about some future upgrades for the turbo. He then told me he had a couple of 1.00 A/R van exhaust housings that he wasn't going to use for his ebay rebuilds b/c the metal had some pitting on the outside and wasn't up to his standards aesthetically but was perfectly fine functionally. So I got an upgrade for $75 compared to the $200-$300 for a new one.
I then decided since I was going to replace the housing to just go ahead and rebuild the turbo. Pete said my mileage was close to the recommend time for a rebuild, but it could easily last a lot longer. My OEM wheel was fine, no damage or dusting, so I mainly just did it for piece of mind and convenience since I was going to take the turbo apart. I also found that 3 of my bolts that hold the oil jacket to the exhaust housing were missing.
As for the K&N, that's getting axed ASAP. It was on the truck when I bought it. I'm not sure what intake I will go with. With the addition of the wicked wheel and the foil delete, I can really hear the turbo now and I mean really hear it. I was completely surprised by the difference b/c before I could not hear the turbo spool at all. I have it narrowed done between the 6637 or going with the Ford AIS system. I was curious how much of the turbo noise would be muffled by going to an enclosed box? I also want to replace the intake tube with a straight piece of pipe that I could paint to match my IC pipes. I don't have a wastegate anymore and plan on doing the CCV mod at the same time.
I am glad I didn't make an rookie mistakes. This is my first diesel and my first truck.
I give credit to all the great advice to member of FTE for helping with that.
I have one concern and I'm not sure if it's just in my head or not. I know diesel's are noisy, but since I finished the repairs I could swear that I hear a little tick that's coming from the passenger side. I need to double check all the exhaust connections, and I will also check the y-collector alignment. Hopefully it's just in my head. If anyone lives near the Pensacola region of Florida and wouldn't mind giving it a listen, I'll bring the beer

great pics and very nice looking engine bay. one word of caution, painted ic pipes are ok but if you have problems blowing boots off clean the area down to the metal where the boots sit to help them grip better. very good looking truck what mods are in the works for the next go around with pms.

1. New air intake. Get rid of the K@N
2. Full coolant flush. Change over to ELC, replace water pump and
add coolant filter.
3. Change out the transmission fluid. Might add the cooler from
DieselSite for manual transmissions.
4. GUAGES!!!!
5. Maybe at this point I will add a chip. We'll see.
Are your ic tubes aluminum or steel?
