01 Ac blows only through defrost vents

My 01 ac has worked just fine up until today. I got in this morning to leave the house and the air was only coming out of the defrost vents. I tried playing with the controls to get it to switch but couldn't. I assume its a vacuum leak, but where do I need to start looking?

Oh I know the answer! Check the vacuum pump on the passenger wheel well. Make sure it's running. When you turn on the engine, the pump should run for 20 seconds or so, then cut off. If it's not running, check the electrical plug on it to make sure it's tight. Mine was loose. If that's fine, check the vacuum tubes for cracks and loose ones. If that's all good, check behind the glove box. There should be red, white and black, and maybe one more color vacuum tubes there.

Just spent about 20 min messing with it.... Pump comes on, but doesnt cut off. I tried to find where it is leaking but pulling lines off the pump and vacuum canister (or what ever the holding tank thing is called) and trying to isolate the leak, but I couldnt find anything.

Is there anything thats safe to spray on the lines and fittings to find a leak.... I know with a regular gas engine you can spray the lines and the engine will change idle when chemical is pulled into a leak. what about this truck?

Check the vacuum lines at your front hubs......

My A/C only blew to the defrost, cept when I locked the hubs, then it would work for a short time.

So after 2 weeks of chasing forums and "vacuum leaks", I bit the bullet and took it to a shop. The mechanic quickly found that the the 4X4 vacuum solenoid was stuck open. Im just glad to have AC.

I ALSO had dry rotted hub vacuum hoses wich I had to replace!!

Hopefully I can save someone else some $$. Now I get to change a hub assembly! Yahoo!!!!!! Wish me luck =).

If you would have posted up here we could have saved you that mechanic bill and walked you right through it.
I had to change my solonoid and usually they do not go out, just the sorry rubber tubing deteriorates.
Glad you got it going.

Here is what I did. I plugged these lines off.

The heat controls will work correctly like this, but you will have to manually lock the hubs. I have Warns in mine so it's not an issue.

If you do have to change out the pump check out 1aauto.com I bought mine there it was fast shipping and a really good price and it came with everything you need. I had the same problem when I bought my truck I check my hubs and the lines were off so i put them back on but found the pump to be n/g.
