1951 F1 bed wood alternative

Hi everyone, we started the 1951 F1 over the week end and it runs great.
If you want to view it you can see it on YouTube at this link:
Anyway, can anyone tell me if they have used any other alternative materials other than wood for the truck bed? I like the look of the oak but the up keep is just too much.
Any ideas would be great.
Also can anyone tell me what the diminsions of the wood pieces are?
Thanks,
Mike

If you want it to look like Oak and work like Oak it's probably going to have to be OAK. But, I'm wondering how TREX would look, maybe if you "antiqued" the grain a little?

The problem with "Trex" and some of the other composite decking materials, is they require support ever 12"-16" due to lack of lateral stiffness. If you could figure out a good under bed support system, this would probably be a good all weather alternative.

As far as all weather wood with an interesting grain and low maintenance try looking a cypress - Cypress Information - Home It doesn't get black spots like oak does, while out in the weather. Depending on the area of the country, the price per board foot is similar.

Good luck
