Depends on how bad they are. But worst case scenario yes they can come apart. If its MINIMAL I would get it fixed sooner then later. My RH outter is slightly loose as is my drag link on the end where it attaches to pitman arm, got new moog parts just have not had time to get them on and align it.
I love my SD but I HATE thie crappy front end parts (tie rod ends, drag link, hub bearings, ball joints all junk)
Need to take a picture, it may not even be tie rod ends. The right side is like 2-3' long and the left side is normal, 1' or so. Its located on the back side of the front end.

LOL--if you think the Duty's are bad just think about every Chevy you saw fold in the front tires on the pulling track and be glad of what you drive. I saw one twist like a pretzel on the dyno one day--it was worse than one of the first Dodges with a cummins in it. Sad.
My friend has lost the wheel on his Maxipad when the ball joint failed. He had already dumped over 1K into the upgraded steering which was destrayed when the tire fell off.
excessively worn front end parts are in fact very dangrous. if you are at all unsure find someone to inspect it for "free" like a real tire store and ask them how bad they are.
most shops will tell you not to drive it if its that unsafe.
pic #1 is the drag link, pic #2 is the other side of the drag link connected to the pitman arm which is again connected to the steer box, pic #3 is the adjustable link between your tie rod ends.is it the end in #2 thats wore out?.

Yeah you are right. I see them at the track bust tie rod ends regularly.
Pretty sure if it breaks one wheel will steer and the other will point to the outside. Hate to have that happen at 70mph
personal experance here. one will steer and one will point in what ever direction it wants to.
dont ask about the crap I have had to drive over the years. Lesson learned long ago always evaluate the car/ truck you are working on before the road test.
