Help Grandpa's Ford get Pimped Update
Thank you everyone for all the help in getting Big Red within striking disance of #1. If you look at what is between Big Red and #1, 5 General Motors vehicle! Oh what, my bad, Government Motors vehicles, Ford managed to save itself!
One of the great side effects of this contest is family has been emailing me and telling me stories about Grandpa and the Ford. At last count, five of the grandkids learned to drive stick in the truck. All of the grandsons learned how to change oil and were flashlight holders while either my uncle or grandpa worked on the truck.
During World War II, my grandfather tried to enlist to go fight, but his services were deemed too important to the military base in Fairbanks to leave. He ran a coal and heating oil transfer/delivery company and delivered fuel to Air Force base. My uncle learned to drive in one of grandpa's delivery trucks, a 1950 Ford Flatbed. He had such fond memories of that truck, that he tracked down a matching truck in Oregon when he retired. He flew down, bought it and drove it back up the Alcan Highway. The truck is in the midst of restoration and goes by the name Rustina.
