how would you build an adventure vehicle

I'm looking at converting my 92 Bronco 300 Custom(plain jane optioinless model) into a go anywhere, do anything vehicle. I'm not a hard core off roader or rock crawler. I live in FLorida and do most of my travels there.
If you didn't have the MegaSquirt, I'd have recommended the EFI Conversion. That way, if you were of the beaten path, there's sure to be a Ford Dealership in the next town that has your parts you need to get going again. Keep everything about as stock as possible for simplicity. Suspension upgrade would be in the works. 2-4 inch full suspension lift so you will have a newer suspension components all around. Look into one of the 3rdGen alternator upgrades. They pt out more power, are internally regulated and if you add another battery, it'll be less load on your engine to keep things charged. OnBoard air is an option and I am going back and forth on engine bay install or one of the other compressor units like ViaAir. Replace your interior with a vinyl interior. Mine came stock and was considering replacing with carpet until my new direction with into an Adventure Vehicle.
If you're going to build your own trailer and want to carry enough supplies to really get you somewhere, consider converting a pickup bed from a similar model year as your Bronco. I'm thinking of this as it will be a match for my Bronco. It'll carry the same tires/wheels as the Bronco. I'd keep the tank in the back for extra fuel with a pump to transfer and also considering installing a reserve fuel tank for water storage. I've seen plans and such for on board Hot water also that would get installed in the engine bay.
Possibly look into installing a roof rack for extra carrying capacity. Store the stuff you'd hardly use on top and out of the way. I've seen pretty decent plan online for creating racks out of aluminum ramps.
I'm still in the thinking stages of doing this to my Bronco. I'll be following your thread here and adding my ideas and watching yours.

Saw an F-550 today... with a big camper built on it. I think the label on the back said "Tortuga expidition camper" that looks pretty impressive.
Ever heard of that?

And if you're gonna stay in the same area for a day or 2 and go exploring? (let's say, within a 20-mile/20-mile 'box'......)......No problem.....Find a level piece of ground.....drop off the camper and set up base-camp (takes about 15 minutes....)....and just use the truck. Now you just have the limitations of your truck with NO load to work with to do rock crawling and crap.
Enjoy.

I just saw a sweet International CXT crewcab SUV 4x4 drive by here in Portland. It reminded me of my truck, and it was definitely an expedition vehicle coming from Mt Hood area. I almost got a photo of it. It was an exact replica of my Bronco, but in International form, and I believe the top removed like mine too. It had approximately 42" tires on it, and about a foot closer to the ground than mine.

Only problem with Internationals is the interior and ride quality make you want to puke in your mouth.

Personally, I'd use my 90 F150 4x4 with the 351W for an adventure truck. Doesn't seem to matter what I throw at that truck, she just won't stop. I'd prefer my old Bronco, but she's long since been scrapped. Poor thing.
