I am new to the whole B-Fuel thing. I want to make it (And mom loves to make soap) so we thought it would be fun. I have ran into problem, first the only supplier I can get can only give me 2 gallons a week (My diesel is down for a while so I can start collecting now) but anyways I am having a problem finding methanol. I can't find HEET fuel line anti-freeze anywhere but autozone and its way to expensive. Is there any place online that sells it REALLY cheap. I found I can buy 5 gallons of it off ebay with shipping for 78 dollars, but I want to go a little cheaper. I appreciate your guy's time and hope to be able to get back. Cant wait to start making some (Will run it threw the tractor before I do the truck) Take care guys =)

That's going to be some expensive biodiesel at 15 dollars a gallon for methanol. At least buy it by the 55 gallon drum. The last we bought a couple months back was $1.30 a gallon delivered but we buy 1200 gallons at a time. We get it from Research Chemical and Solvents. They operate in a few different states, don't know if one of them is yours.
I know, I'm just talking the price of methanol per gallon. Using your ebay example, you have $3.00 a gallon just in methanol per gallon of bio produced before lye. Point was, the bigger the container you buy it in the cheaper you can get it.
When looking for reasonable quantities of methanol for making biodiesel, look around in the 'yellow pages' for racing specialty shops. here in St. Louis, I can get the methanol for $3.50/gallon at the specialty parts store for racing. They sell a variety of fuels for pit crews to blend their own. They are willing to sell from 1 gallon to 10 or 20, whatever is needed.
Good luck.
Well problem is local race shop is so far away its not worth my time to drive there in the gas truck (Diesel engine is being put in a project truck) and drive back with it. So I will order it. So I am waiting to hear from rushmore.

I get mine from Stern Oil in Freeman, SD when I go down there (about once a month). There is also a place in Belle Fourche, SD that makes Methanol (closer to me, but more expensive) Another place for you to try is your local janitorial supply. Wonder if there are places on Ebay that ship?

Oh I thought you said you would sell it to me for that lol, cause I would love to get it for that price. Most places on ebay want 30 dollars for 5 gallons, and then 45-50 dollars for shipping.

that would be a bargain, $15 bucks for 5 gallons (including the pail). Most places want at least $5 for the pail by the way... Dudadiesel has 5 gallon buckets for 29.95 + $51.44 for shipping.

Yeah I know thats how much they want, but I am trying to find it way cheaper. If only could figure out how much it cost to make a big batch and if I knew this one guy would buy from me, I would ask for a cash advance and make up his diesel (Be a good reason to buy so much)

I have been averaging less then a buck a gallon, could pm you a copy of the spread sheet I use. I buy KOH in 50# bulk however, and recover methanol. Another place to try for Methanol might be a local COOP. The one that I used to use here bought it in the 5 gallon pails for the Convenience Stores to use as windshield/window cleaner...
