holy hell, truck is LOUD!

well I pulled off the muffler today and put in the piece of pipe, its pretty awesome its extremely loud though and very raspy, reminds me of a glasspack overall length of exhaust was downsized by half foot pipe was 2.5"D 18"long 1/16" thick, although when I got back home and checked to make sure everything was hooked up the pipe came loose from where it mates with the original exhaust so maybe thats why it was raspy because I could feel a plentyful amount of exhaust escaping from where the two pipes mate

I was driving my truck through town and it was turning heads lol it seems like the truck has a little more "oomph" although that could just be my foot constantly on the floor because I love the roaring sounds coming from the straight pipe lol, now look what I've done I'm going to get even worse mpg now hahah

I've never had an N/A IDI with a straight-pipe but I've had two 7.3L PowerStrokes that were straight-piped, been around a lot of Cummins with straight pipes and my turbo IDI sounds WAYYYYYYY better than any of them.
It's not loud until you stomp it to the floor and even then it's not loud inside the cab it just sounds good. Someone brought up on time that the latter IDIs are better insulated/sound deadened so that might be the reason for the quietness in the cab.

A Turbo makes all the difference in the world to exhaust noise levels over a N/A.

Totally.

I was running only a downpipe on my 7.3 DI, no muffler, no cat, and you still couldn't hear the exhaust over the sound of the engine clatter. The turbo eats up pretty much all the sound.
