390 four barrel intake

I am looking at what is supposed to be a factory 390 4 barrel intake with numbers D5TE9425MB on it. Is there any way to confirm what it is?

There were no 4 barrel 360 engines, so it is a 390 manifold, even though it will fit a 360 and a 352 for that matter.

Oh so wrong.

Decoder for Ford Part Numbers

Prefix

The first character indicates the decade of design:

A = 1940s (often omitted)
B = 1950s
C = 1960s
D = 1970s
E = 1980s
F = 1990s

The second character indicates the last digit of year of introduction or revision. The number remains the same until the part goes through a major revision. Example: All '87-'95 Mustang (exc. Cobra) cylinder heads have the same Service Part Number prefix (E7TE) aka Casting Number. Decipher the Date Code to indicate when the part was actually made.

The third character of the prefix indicates the product the part was originally designed for:

Example: E1ZB-660045C90-B ('81 Mustang Turbo instrument cluster overlay subassembly)

Suffix

Single letter indicates specific application. Increases alphabetically (A, B, C, etc.) for each minor revision (same prefix and basic part number) and then double letters (AA, AB, AC, etc.) when all single letters are used.

Three-letter code usually indicates color.

D5TE9425MB

So D5TE9425MB works out to:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = " /><o> </o>
D = 1970s<o></o>
5 = 1975<o></o>
T = Light-duty and Medium-duty truck (1966-82)<o></o>
E = Engine<o></o>
9421-9499 = Manifolds, clamps, etc.

What about the MB?

I am having problems with the stock 2-barrel carb and am thinking about going to a new 4 barrel carb with this intake on my '65 F250 with a stock 352, 4-speed and headers.

Is so hard to understand?

D5TE-9425-MB is not a Ford part number, it's an ID engineering number.

There are no actual Ford part numbers marked on any parts after 1956, just ID numbers...when applicable.

ID number: D5TE-9425-MB = Ford part number: D5TZ9424L .. 4V Intake Manifold.

Fits: 1975/76 F100/350 390 / VIN engine code M.

You cannot go by Ford ID or part number prefixes to ID what vehicles parts fit, what years they are from. You wanna know why?

Ford is in-famous for replacing (updating) 10's of 1000's of part numbers every year!

Example: Got a 240/300 exhaust manifold layin' around? Ford replaced the part number EIGHT times between 1965 and 1983, I kid you not.

D5TE ID number prefix: D = decade 1970's / 5 = 1975 / T = Truck/Bronco / E = ENGINEERING.

Just because the prefix has a T does not necessarily mean it's truck or Bronco related. Parts with a T in the prefix might fit any FoMoCo vehicle...see for the reason why.

Part number prefix with a T in it could be related to: All series Trucks / Bronco / Bronco II / Explorer / Expedition / Excursion / Ranger, yadda yadda yadda!

9 = Turbine engine parts (1970-75)
Everytime I see this, I want to throw up!

Whoever originally concocted this MESS should be taken out and shot!

It was in the RED BOOK originally, first offered in the late 1960's, sold in local book stores to Ford nuts so they decode their VIN's, figure out Ford part numbers. It's been updated since, with more wrong info

The information is right in a few cases, mis-leading in others, most of it is pure unadultrated crap! Whoever concocted this jazz, never took a course in FoMoCo Parts 101.

Regardless, you cannot go by part number prefixes to ID parts, see my post above.

Bear, I know you (and others) that have posted this chart, are unaware of the facts. You were just trying to help out....but PLEASE, do not post it again. I'm tired of grading it!

Now that I have been revealed as an idiot for asking the question, is it possible to install what is apparently a 4-barrel manifold for a mid-70s 390 on my '65 352 equipped F250 with an aftermarket 4-barrel carb?

The simple answer is yes. All FE engines have the same physical dimensions. The only issue would be the port sizes and since the late manifolds have smaller ports than the early heads, you will have no problems.
