np435 trans like a brownie box?

I'm sure to get a few people who think that Im on drugs or maybe just drunk but I'm gonna ask you ford guys anyways. So here is the stupid question. I pulled a washed out 6.0l volvo engine (td60) out of an f611 truck, I then put a 5.9l cummins into it, the truck a has a volvo 5 speed gear box in it and it does ok for the most part. The truck originaly had a 20 foot flat bed on it but I put a 1946 autocar truck body on it and a service bed with a 2 ton crane and a welder etc. its a bit more heavy and I want more gears an over drive would be optimal and I need a pto realy bad. I have looked for auxiliary transmissions and have had limited success (bought one but its seized with a spun bearing) So, as I was wandering around my shop I noticed a pile of 5 np435 transmissions that I have been gathering and I started to think that since 4th is 1 to 1 and 3rd is 1.66 to 1 what would happen if I removed the shift forks for 1st/2nd and rev. and turned the trans around so that the input shaft was the output shaft. I have the room to mount it like a brownie box, then I would have a direct and an overdrive right? I could put the pto on either side and since its a gear pump it wont matter what direction the pto is going. After you stop laughing please enlighten me on the matter. I know that there is a helical gear in there so there might be a problem with a thrust washer anything would help.

I have heard of truck pullers doing that if they couldn't afford an Atlas, but that isn't extended use.

I think you would be better off finding a 2 speed rear axle, and probably a heck of a lot cheaper than machining the input (or new output) of the second transmission.
