2007 6.0 Taking a long time to start

My 2007 6.0 is taking a long time to start. It (so far) always starts but it turns over for at least 5 to 7 seconds before it fires. It has happened in the past, while under warranty, they replaced an O-ring. and it was pretty good for a while. Not sure where this O ring was located.

Then It started again at the 100,000 KM mark, and they said there was a tech bullitin on it, and they re programed the computer. It never really changed much after that. I didn't see any improvement after the reprograming, and they checked it twice.

The Tech told us Fords spec on start time was 15 seconds. Holy cow !!! that's a long time of cranking. He figures that 5 seconds was exceptable. due to the oil pressure having to be 500 psi before ignition. What I don't understand is this happens when it's cold, or warm. The other day it was warm, sat for maybe 15 min. As the wife was starting it to leave I counted to 8 and she quit trying. Off /On and again it took almost 7 seconds before it started.
It goes in for regular services, at the dealership. so I would assume the filters and all are being changed when required.
Has anyone else had any trouble with there 2007 6.0's?

They are the original batteries.

Yesterday I started it with the remote.... Counted to 4 and it fired. Drove it for 8 miles, and when I went to start it after the stop. It got to a count of 7 before it fired up.

Mine has just started to do the same thing. After about 5 -8 seconds it will crank and run fine. My batteries ar less than a year old. Usually mine cranks within 2-3 seconds.

Go to the 6.0 forum, tech folder and "no start" condition.

Found the problem. And the dealership repaired it under the diesel engine warranty. Good thing.... it was a $1500.00 job.

Turns out it was the "D" rings under both tappet covers. The "O" ring in the center at the rear was changed out about a year ago. These "D" rings are actually an o ring, (but Ford calls the outside ones D) they were deteriorating. Because of this, it was taking a long time to get the oil pressure up to 500 psi.
He showed me the old parts, and it looks like it just went flat, on one side. To test them they pressure the tappet cover with compressed air, he said you can here the air leaking by and then they know what the problem is.
Now it starts like a diesel should start. I asked if it was gonna happen again, and he said out of all the ones they have fixed, (at least 2 per week) none have had to come back and get them replaced again.

As noted above, your batteries are looking for their grave. Three years is about all you can get out of them before their cranking voltage drops low enough to fry the FICM.

The test they performed is called the air leak test:

Diesel Technician Society

They probably replaced the injector inlet O-Rings.
