more e40d problems?

So were to start, I had a previous thread that got me to were I am at now, but need some advice on what to do next. . The problem that i am having is when i shift to drive it dies. shift to reverse same thing. I finally got it going but everytime I came to a stop it would die. everytime you touch the breaks it wants to die once i was moving it seemed to shift with out a lot of problems. so i was told to pull codes and start my diagnossis from there. So I pulled the codes and got 631 and 629. If it helps any it is a 94 f150 5.0l and has a 180,000 miles, and I verified the trans with 600 codes and also the trans oil pan has 20 bolts telling me it is a e40d trans.

- 631 overdrive cancel switch indicator light circut failure
- 629 converter clutch control circuit failure.

631- the light on the shifter for o/d has been out for maby 5 years so i think that explains code 631.

629-In my readings on this site and others about this problem i seem to have a bad soloniod pack. I have already disconected the plug on the pasanger side of the tranny and have done resistince checks on all wires. the plug's looked very clean and i had no resistince on any of the wires in the wirring loom. So is there any thing else i can do to diagnoss this problem further before pulling the pan with 18 quarts of tranny fluid and no drain bolt. what a mess that will be. any help would be great thanks

From what the book says 631 has nothing to do with the solenoid pack.
It said that you have a short to ground in the wiring or a bad computer.
631 is an electrical test of the wiring from the PCM Power relay through the solenoid and back to the computer.
The computer is not seeing any current coming from the transmission wire so it says there is and open or a short in the wiring.
In your case a short after the circuit leaves the solenoid and before it gets to the computer or the computer has a problem inside with this circuit.

Here, read it for your self:

By the way you could open the wire (pin #4, P/Y) as it leaves the transmission and see if the clutch is off then and you can drive it.
