87 70 anniversary edition

I pick up a1987 f250 supercab, longbed, 460, 4x4. I has a triangular badge on both side that reads Special Edition & 70th anniversary.

Does anybody know what that means as far as options and what not?

I was told that it has a sterling rear end.

This is odd. Ford did their Centennial models (Taurus, etc) in 2003. This would make 1987 their 84th anniversary.

Maybe someone just added the badges on?

The F-series wasnt started until 1948 so 1987 would have been the 39th year not really an anniversary of the F-series itself. It may have been in recognition of the fact ford has produced trucks since the model T days that would have given the 70th anniversary.

This is the second truck that I have heard of that was an "87 anniversary" model. The other truck was supposedly an anniversary model that was blue with a white stripe.

Sorry, I only have conjecture and hearsay for your answer. I was only 11 in 1987, not quite paying attention to trucks in those days...
