Newbie here, with an electronic ign Q

Hi all, I'm new here, hailing from Tampa, FL. I just have a few questions. I'm kinda new to the ford world, and I've been working on a 79 F100 Ranger. It has a 351W 2bbl out of a 77 Cougar.

My first question is, should this engine have a points ignition?

Second question, it does indeed have points, how do I go about changing it over to electronic ignition? What dizzy will I need, control boxes, wiring, etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

T.J.

go to -removed, does not support this site- and get a free catalog. they have everything you need in there to change over points to electronic ignition. All in one kit.

Dont know about points or not I would think that a 77 would have had electronic ignition...but maybe not.
To do the swap you need an elctronic distributor from a 351W, a duraspark module and the wiring harness connecting it to the distributor. The rest of the harness is easy to modify.

Good lord, your post got edited because it said -removed does not support this site- racerdave? What is this place, a dictatorship? I'm not coming back, but thanks for your help anyways, I ordered a catalog. Thankfully I frequent, and am an administrator on another board, that doesn't do those kind of things.

Regards, and thanks again Dave.

no, this place is not a dictatorship, it is a privately owned website funded by a company in direct competition with other vendors. they have given us this large area at their expense but they have rules. sorry if you feel that violating the rules is acceptable but i personally feel that it isn't and they have the right to correct violation. if this were a non profit public forum you would have an arguement but since this is a privately owned concern you don't have a leg to stand on. i would use the analogy of speed limits, here in california the speed limit is 65 if you get caught doing 85 you get fined for violating the rules does that mean you wouldn't come back here too? hawkrod

at the top right of the pages is a link to the online store. also if you use certain words like " bumper " they will usually show up highlighted. if you click on that word it will take you to those items in the catalog related to that item (it does not seem to be working right now so i assume it has not been updated with the rest of the website changes we just had). oh, and by the way, welcome!!! hawkrod
