My wife just phoned me and said that the truck felt a little bouncier than normal. She pulled into a parking lot and the rear end is sitting super low. I have an 07 Limited with air ride. I work 35 miles away and take public transit so getting back there to help her out is pretty much impossible.

If the bags aren't filling and the truck is squatting will she ruin the tires if she drives it home? What kind of repairs should I be looking at? Should I just get it towed to the shop?

My wife didn't wait for my advice. She drove it home. I'm not surprised... Anyway, she didn't blow a tire which is good but I'm not sure if they got damaged at all. She said that both sides were low which sounds to me that neither bag is being filled. Compressor maybe? Leaky line?

Dumb question, is there a dedicated compressor for the air ride? Where's it located?

I'm thinking I'd check fuses first. I don't have my owner's manual handy but I'd bet there's a fuse or circuit breaker that would be a good first step.

 

I had same issue; I was not aware of what had happened, drove the truck home and ruined two tires. Problem was a 98 cent plastic valve near the pump, which is in the right front of the engine bay. My 2000 currently has the suspension shut off at the emergency switch because the warning light keeps coming on. What an absolutely stupid invention.

 

Can you hear the compressor running? Take a spray bottle with soapy water and spray all components down. You will see bubbles at the air leak.

 

Thanks. The compressor runs a lot. I do not understand the logic of the system, as it will pump up the front end whenever I stop at a light, etc. Which means that the system is lowering the front end while driving...why? Lately, the check light has been coming on sooner: used to be 50 minutes, now 20. It still pumps up and down, though. I have yet to see the system leak down anywhere. I am curious to know if I turn off the system (emergency shut off) if it locks it out so that the system does not work. I think it is just BS, since if there is a leak somewhere then shutting it off won't do anything. I would remove the system except the truck is 10 years old and has other issues.

 

That's why I did not want this option. Every car with air suspension I have come across leaked or had other problems that were not cheap to fix. Not like replacing a standard shock or strut.

 

I didn't want the option either but I bought used so you don't alway get exactly what you want. Depending on the cause and the cost I may try one of the non-air conversion kits. I haven't gotten home yet to start troubleshooting though. I'll keep you all posted. I'm praying it's not too expensive... come on fuse or 98cent switch

 

I took a look at it last night. The compressor is running but the bags aren't filling. I didn't have a lot of time to troubleshoot so it's at the shop this morning. THe tech said he'd charge me 1/2 hour for the diagnosis which I'm waiting to hear back about.

BTW - I did drive it with the bags fully deflated. I could still stick my hands around the entire tire and there was no rubbing. I did drive slow because I didn't want it to rub at all. I can't even tell you how dreadful the ride is. I was creepin up the road...

there is a dedicated air compressor for the air suspension - some models have it under the hood near the right front wheel and some have it in the back (depending on the model according to my dealer). your dealer can tell you, although it took the service manager calling the factory rep to figure it out.

What was the fix. My '07 is sagging badly. Pump runs but the bags do not inflate. I hear no sounds of air leaks. I check the pump when I pull the air line out nothing and it turns on I feel nothing coming out of the pump. Does a hose have to be in the fitting? When I ran air through the hose to the shocks they didn't move. But I did feel air coming back when I took it off? any ideas? I am going to try to get it in to a dealership on Tuesday.

It ended up being my compressor. The dealer raked me for almost $1000. I ended up getting it down a couple hundred with a sob story. Your symptoms were similar to mine. I tried to go to a local shop and they did the troubleshooting like you did but never thought it was the compressor since it turned on. The system has been working fine ever since though.
