" Use the search box, Luke". as in feel the force. lol. The search function is your friend and is not difficult to use. Give it a try. When you;ve exhausted that reading, and pictures you will know much more. If you still want to p&p your own head I would suggest getting a junk head from the wrecking yard to practice on. One can get carried away. There are many here that have p&p thier own and I'm sure will give advice. Good luck, keep us in the loop. OBCB

YouTube - CYLINDER HEAD REBUILD - VALVE JOB AND PORT & POLISH ON DVD

A pretty informative (yet short in comparison) YouTube video of the procedure.

Rather than being slow and deliberate the guy seems like he just sticks his die grinder in there, turns in on, and starts wagging it around. The last port he does seems a little more controlled but the first one was all over the place LOL. Informative, but I'm glad the guy is not a dentist.

Yeah, if I do it, I'm definitely going slow and taking my time. The video's good for showing just what a P&P is and what it entails.

Watch lots of videos, they are the best place to start. They have kits from summitracing that you can buy to do it. If you do it yourself be prepared its gonna take awhile. I had about 10 hours in mine altogether.

I decided to try my hand at it yesterday. Wasted about 6hrs using a variety of grinding stones chucked up in my drill. When I found my Dremel, everything changed. I quickly wore down a barrel shaped grinding stone but with promising results, so I went and got a carbide barrel bit ($12). Everythings smoother but still rough, and there are hard to reach areas. I had to build up some nerve getting anywhere near the valve seats though. Not entirely looking forward to hitting it with numerous lighter passes and I did question just paying to have it done vs my time. But at least I can say I tried it. My Dremel also never leaves the slowest speed.

Blow out the guide and wipe off an old v. and put it in to protect the seat as you work in chamber.
