I got my truck smog tested according to the new California law and I must say it is a joke. The tech looked at the doorframe sticker, under the hood, looked underneath, did the snap test, I paid my $50 and bye bye. Total time: 5 minutes. I guess it's better than the full test for gasoline motors, but a rip off just the same. Here's an interesting fact: He told me he has to turn over all the money to the state and they return his cut back at the end of the year, for diesels only not gassers. Looks like a good way for the state to get some extortion money in the bank for a while.
is your truck all stock? Just asking because i need to smog by the end of june and wanted to know if they are looking for tuners/programers. Thanks.
They can't look for tuners or programmers that download onto the truck's computer. They can't connect to the CAN/OBD11 protocol of our computers. They are looking too see if your emissions equipment (Cat, EGR valve, CCV) is in place and if you produce smoke. It's all listed at dmv.ca.gov. If you have a fuel box (Banks style programmer) you will have to remove it because they can see it.
