I am planning on helping a friend change the spark plugs on his 2004.
So thats the year that we want the specs for, but it would be nice to have the torque specs for every year V10 all in one place. If someone would first give the factory specs that would great. Then we can talk about other #'s. I've heard anywhere from 11 lb.-ft. to 32 lb.-ft. and also whether or not to use some sort of lubrication. Anti-Seize?

 

Ford's sevice manual for the 04 says use Motocraft Plug SP-479 AGSF22WM and torque to 14 lb.-ft..

 

Is that what ur gonna do?

 

Yeah if it doesnt work we'll be putting on a new head and hood maybe.

Is that with dry plug threads?

 

They said on 2-valve don't bother with anti-seize. The dealer doesn't use any.

 

I think we should get a sticky with the torque specs. In my search I've seen too many variations. Maybe even set up a poll or something. Then have people post of they have had or haven't had a blow out with the torque spec they used.

 

14 ft/lbs is the general consensus.

USE ANTI-SEIZE. If the zinc plating on the plug is nicked or fails, the interaction between the iron plug and the aluminum head is NOT PRETTY.

Here's some pictures after 115k miles.

 

I torqued mine to 14lbs at plug change and six months later had a loose one.
Went to blownoutsparkplug.com and got their information. Torqued to 30lbs and have done it three times since. The plugs came out with no problems and went in great. No damage to the threads.
the guy at blownoutsparkplug.com has torqued them to 100lbs and still didn't strip on the 5 thread heads. I agree with him that the threads don't strip due to over tightening, but they strip because they wallow the threads out when they come loose.
No lubricant. 200,000 on my motor and going strong 2002 two valve V10 van.
