Why didn't you just do it yourself? That way it would have been done right..... right?

Can we have a moment of silence, please?
Legendary coach John Wooden has left the building.

One of the few times that I'm glad that I'm OLD enough to remember something or someone. Heck of a man. Heck of a coach.

He lived about a mile-and-a-half south of us, and his favorite coffee shop is one of our haunts, but I never crossed paths with him. Always wished that I would.
He was an example of what a real hero is all about, and he steered countless lives for the good with his coaching leadership, both on and off the court.
To the end he remained a man of modest means, and had never let his world-wide fame go to his head. He is truly revered by most of those he mentored at UCLA, many of whom later not fitting that description.
Farewell and Godspeed, John Wooden, ye Wizard of Westwood.

There's a small plaque in our post office that notes the place is named in his honor, by Congressional decree.

As a child I always rooted for UCLA, not sure why. But I can remember the Saturday that Notre Dame ended their 88 game winning streak. I was devastated.
