2003 6.0 died

A friend has a 2003 6.0,around 200000kms well maintained just had new injectors, filters etc. This truck is his bread and butter so anything that needs to be addressed gets it, pretty much touble free until now. Just out of the blue last week at driving @60kms/hr pulling an empty trailer it died no surge or sputter. Full fuel, oil etc, they tried to get it running and it would not fire up. His local auto shop pretty much gave up on it and it now sits at our Ford dealership. Thoughts are leaning to fuel delivery to electrical can we ball park some things that he can put forward to the dealer to get him in and out sooner. Thanks all

That symptom can also point toward a problem in the high pressure oil system.

Could this be a form of safety shut down leaning towards oil pump failure?

Not really...the high pressure oil system is used to fire the injectors, and is somewhat separate from the engine's lubrication system.

oil pump pressure and injector pressure are two different areas,I am not well versed in the diesel, would then the injector pressure be produced then through the fuel pump system.

Had this happen to me on a 2003 6.0 Excursion...No warning, no symptoms...replaced the ICP sensor and harness and still no start. We had good fuel pressure and the FICM checkout with 48 volts KOEO and KOEC. Turns out it was the HPOP failed and wasn't able to build the amount of pressure needed to start the engine. From what I've read and heard, the early trucks had HPOP that failed relatively easily as time went on, so that may be something to look at.

I would also check the FICM using this test: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...procedure.html

Here are a couple of diagrams that explain it far better than I can:

So as you can see, if the high pressure oil system isn't building pressure the injectors won't fire.

I had my injectors done and then a few weeks later my truck just quit starting, I had corroded wires that shorted out the FICM and PCM apparently, took Ford almost 2 weeks to get it fixed. 2003 with at the time I think 240k km's. I use Cam Clark Ford in Airdrie, which is where my rig is at right now getting my new turbo, EGR delete and new oil cooler installed.

When my 2003 HPOP went out, the engine was able to run. It had low power as I think some cylinders shut down as a precautionary measure. Got the oil pump replaced and no problem.

Recently, my 03 went down again. Just died. Turns out it was the Fuel Pump.

Maybe your friends is electrical?

Query regarding the injector intensifier dead volume

Dear sir,

I am working in project related to HEUI injector modelling. I need some information regarding the oil chamber- above intensifier: dead volume/ gap between the intensifier piston top and oil spool body. Also I need the fuel chamber initial dead volume, and the gap between the piston-plunger and fuel chamber end.

My project is focusing on the HEUI injector modelling for ROI instantaneous profile
