351W instead of rebuilding 1977 460

Not really a truck questions, but you guys have helped me out in the past with lots of great comments and suggestions.

I have a worn out '77 Lincoln 460 in my 1970 Torino. I have been looking into having it built up to 400-450HP & 500 ft/lbs. But Last year i bought a 1993 F250 supercab 4x4 with 351W & 5spd, and am very impressed on how well that stock Windsor pushes around my 6000Lb truck.

I've been getting pretty discouraged about the costs of building the 460 how I want it, and I came across a real ford engine builder at a local shop, who has a personal 359W he built up over the last 6 months. Sounds like he really took his time with it and says its about 435HP. So i've been really thinking about swapping to a small block, figure Id save some weight with engine and the smaller bellhouseing C6, and its got lots of HP, guess it might not have same low end torque as a built 460, but probably more than my stock '77 has had for last 8 years.

The Windsor has roush heads, roller valve train, pretty big flat-tappet cam, but figures we can get it through my local emissions tests. He has lots of time prepping block, decking it etc. not sure of all the rest i can post specs when he emails me. Do know that the motor is not balanced. After talking with him at the shop sounds like he really knows his ford engines and perfomance builds.

So im wondering what the pros and cons would be, swapping the Windsor into my 1970 Torino (about 3900lbs with 460/C6), 9" rear end 28spline, track Lok 3:50's.
The car is a daily driver 8 months a year, gets driven hard all the time and sees the track a few times a year.

He is also suppling me with a small bellhousing C6, motor mounts and headers.

thanks

I'd scoop it up.. sounds like a great motor. In a 3500lb car this motor will flat out HAUL!! Yes you're coming from a 460 but an all stock 1977 version was only generating about 200hp.. if that, so overall the car will pull much better with this 351 and get way better fuel milage when just cruising around.

thanks, Conanski. Hey and thanks for all the help you gave me on my f250 over the last year, its running great now.
I'll post the engine specs when I actually see it and get them, but like you said sounds like a nice, well built, well though out windsor.

Wondering what you think about this build for a 3700 lbs street car with C6 and 9" with 3:50's and 28" tall tires. Car gets driven pretty hard on the street as a daily driver and goes to the track twice a year.

Any ideas on HP or Torque numbers?

351w
4.04 bore with 18cc dished pistons
stock crank ground 0.010/0.010
stock rods resized & re-aligned
block is squared and zero decked
comp cams hyd. flat tappet cam (I'll dig up the specs)
roush 200cc heads machined to 58cc
speed pro hardened push rods
comp cams high teck stainless roller rockers
hardened guidplates and studs
ford racing tall valve covers
edelbrock performer rpm air gap intake manifold
mellig oil pump
new water pump
march alt. bracket
edelbrock 1409 carb with choke removed
pioneer harmonic balancer

camshaft is comp part #35-242-3
this = int. ex.
@ .05 224 231
adv. 268 280
lift .510 .512
lobe sep 110
compression ratio is 9.7:1

thanks
