Preparing the 6.9 for a cross country trip ~ 13,000 miles gonna be done in 9 weeks!

So were leaving in 4 weeks for a 9 week vacation.

Heading out to California! Gonna follow all the northern states from Michigan to Washinton, also go through the Colorado Rockies, then in Wash. gonna come back up in B.C Canada to go visit Victoria Island witch we didn't have time to go visit back in 2007 when we went across Canada.

Then follow along side the Pacific Ocean across Wash., Oregon, then California.

Stop by and get a picture with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Sacramento.

Keep going all the way to the Mexican border.

Finish Route 66 from Los Angeles to Amarillo Texas (we already done it from Chicago to Amarillo back in 2008.)

Make a left for Arizona and go see the Grand Canyon.

Then cut across, see some states we never been to yet comming back up slowy, do some zig zags across the USA

I have a "to do" list to prepare the ol' 6.9 for this monster trip!

-4 new belts
-Fan clutch
-2 front tires
-New cab carpet
-Re-do the walls in the shower and vinyl floor
-Clean rad (bugs from last year lol)
-Find a 7.3 air cleaner bowl (buttom part)
-Install real gauges (water temp, oil pressure, and Pyro)
-Change differential oil
-Rear brakes
-Check, inspect front brakes, grease front end, and U-joints
-Seal up any cracks in the seems (camper body)
-Fix up front wall of the goose neck, wood is rotted
-A good interior/exterior cleaning

I think that about tops it, that's all off the top of my head, maybe forgeting 1 or 2 things, anyway you get the idea.

Got 4 weeks to do all this....

Were expecting to do a good 25,000km (13,000 miles) in 9 weeks.

I'm pretty confident the old IDI will make it no problem

For anyone curious, our trip will look something like this:

Bottom bowl? If you don't find one (or borrow the one of your truck....) stop in on your way west and I'm sure I can find a spare.

Driving that sort of distance, do you take stuff with you and do oil changes in transit, or pay and have it done someplace, or what?

You won't have any trouble. I just got back from a short trip back home, 800 miles in 14 hours going up to Ohio from Georgia and 18 hours going from Ohio to Ga. a week later. Since your taking your time, enjoy the trip. These old Fords are a blast and bullet proof. BTW, I drive a 1987 F250 extended cab. If you need any help in the middle ga area drop me a pm.

Sounds like a sweet trip! I don't imagine it makes much difference at this point.....you seem to have a good plan in place, but it's actually Vancouver Island. Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia, Canada and is located on Vancouver Island. Victoria Island is actually over 2000kms (1200mi) northeast of Victoria. And that's as the bird flies.... I wouldn't be surprised if Victoria island is one of the many places in the Canadian north that you can only get to by plane in the summer.... ice roads in the winter!

Good luck and enjoy your vacation!

If it wasn't for the brutal cold of Canada, I'd love to live there! 9 weeks off for Vacation?!? Guess it's true that the American worker gets less days off than the majority of other industrialized nations.

If you're around Yellowstone National Park you should certainly go around the loop and see. If your going by the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas is real close and so is the Hoover Dam. Seen your video of the Camper's 6.9 IDI running you just put up.

16*C in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia right now.... that's not cold at all! Now the winter, that a whole other story! Just stay clear of the north and Winterpeg (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and you'd be fine!

It runs, just has no brake lights, no bed and the 36.5" tires are not balanced.

Believe me, there extremly hard to find!!

We've had this one for 10 years now, bought it in October 2000, and since we have it, I have never seen another 6.9 IDI motorhome. I've seen a couple 7.3 IDI's but never another 6.9

I did see very few 6.9 motorhomes on the internet, but never one in real life.

Heres a picture of it.

Love this pic, wish it was a better looking truck tho.
