cab mount bushings

So after alot of reading these forums trying to figure out how to replace cab mount bushings...I still am not sure what needs to be done. Has anyone done this on a 82 F150 (or similar)? Any recommendations? It looks to me like you can't even reasonably get to the bolt side.

The rear cab mounts are behind the seat. You take a plug out(if it's still there) and the bolt head is down in a cavity. You can jack the cab up then and pull it out. Look for them to be tight and very rusty. Also make sure your crossmember is not rusted out where they sit. I believe the front mounts are easily accessed, but I have never messed with the ones on the bottom of the firewall.

On my 84 cab the bolts under the seat were in the open. the front bolts were under the carpet under metal covers. Best to use some PB blaster,WD40 or ect to get them loosen. I found it intresting my 84 cab bolts came out no problems, but the 90 I got for the cab swap, were stuck big time!

For just changing them out, loosen up all 4 bolts and leave them loose but not totaly off threads. Using a jack with proper support(2x4 board across cab floor), jack up one side enough to see the mount free of the cab, then take off that nut rest of the way, swap out the mount and then put back the bolt and nut. Repeat for the same side and then do the other side the same way. What you are doing is keeping the cab safely mounted so it won't roll off the frame. I seen that happen once when some drunk tried to put a lift kit in....

FOr the radiator support, good luck with those, each and every one I tried to remove I had to torch them out! The pass side one is the worse as battery acid usually falls on that mount.

Appreciate the info on where to get to the hardware. I've identified all the locations. Passenger side under the radiator is going to be tricky, but it all looks doable...of course depending on how much this stuff is all rusted together, could change my opinion.

So I am reading on Energy Suspension's website, and they recommend fabbing up a homemade "bushing puller". Is this really necessary, or do the bushings usually come off without much trouble?

Finally getting busy with this project. Got the Passenger side freed up. Passenger side, under the radiator was a chore.

Now I'm wondering if the Energy Suspension kit that I have is missing 2 bushings. It only came with 8 parts...and seems to me there should have been 10.

I'm still not really sure what the best way to jack this thing up is. I'm not feeling the 2x4 method described earlier....any more details where that should be placed?

----Edit------

Well, I confirmed with Energy Suspension that my kit is NOT right. Now I have to wait on them to ship the missing stuff.

Also...there seems to major roadblock with the gas tank and the rear driver side bushing....suggestions?

----Edit----

All 3 bolts out on the passenger side. All 3 bolts loose on the driver side, giving plenty of movement to jack up the passenger side and keep overall alignment. Passenger side OEM bushings @ the radiator was pretty horrible. There's a threaded washer spacer in the middle of it all, that was complete galled / rusted to the bolt. Cut away one of the rubber bushings to get to the threaded part of the spacer washer, put a 1" box wrench on it and zipped the bolt out with a rattle gun.

The back bushings on the driver side are the only thing i'm worried about now, due to the gas tank. I'm guessing the gas tank is going to have to come out if I really want to replace the back bushings.

Can someone help me identify a replacement part for this? See picture. It came off the radiator Core Mounting Hardware. This part doesn't seem to exist in LMC. Essentially by the LMC catalog, this should be part of the "Cushion-Upper", with the washer part sitting on top of the Cushion, and the sleeve section (threaded) going down through the cushion to the Radiator Core Support Frame Bracket. I "FUBAR'd" the part...so i need a replacement.

Festus - thanks. Looks like you've dealt with a similar issue before.

I think I found the washer - threaded sleeve combo on The Bronco Graveyard.

Radiator Core Support Upper Body Mount Sleeve

The assembly is $30, which includes the rubber cushion....which at the end of the day, I won't be using, since I have the Poly ones. This would almost be worth a trip to the junk-yard, except I'll burn $25 in diesel getting there. Some times a guy just can't win.

Just out of curiosity, does the linked part look correct to you, in terms of a match to the picture I posted?

As a side note...this Crown on the rocks tastes better all the time.

All I see on them images is a black round object ... POS Computer.

I didn't notice your title ... "cab mount ...", It just looked like the core support bushings, sorry.

The cab ones are different from the core support ones.

I am in the same boat as well, I have a poly kit and none of them washer/bushing thingy mcbobs...

I think when the time comes for that project I'll just make some, I wanted to do this truck with factory parts but I'm slowly finding out it just ain't worth it!

What irritates me is those pieces should come in poly kits, they are part of the factory cushion.

I agree they should...however, metal fabrication actually costs money. I gotta believe these poly bushing kits that you can buy for $75 - 100, are produced for about $10 and the marketing geniuses take over. They need to reaize that alot of people buying these kits are installing them in 25 year old trucks...which means cutting stuff out or alot of rust damage.

Yeah, I am talking about the Core Support at this stage. I'm doing all 3 though...so 1. Core Support 2. Cab, under your feet and 3. Cab, behind the bench.

I think the hardware from Bronco graveyard is the most complete. I don't have a clue what LMC is trying to show in their catalog. It doesn't look right to me.

I had the same issue with LMC on this matter, you really cannot see for certain exactly whats there.

On my 86 it was all gone, nothing to go off, had no clue what should be there.

I still have not completed my kit install, just mickey moused the core support to pass inspection, I plan on pulling the cab when I'm done with my current project.

my truck is a 96 but running into the similar problems. cant seem to find what i need. the core support is the hard part. i put a used set in and it got me by but this time i am going to get the right parts and eliminate the 2 different size bolts. i dont care so much for the cab as the core support but i put a body lift on and might as well replace them even though there still OK. front where gone. rust isn't a real issue but getting a wrench under and ratcheting on top for 2 hours per bolt was a headache. i am having trouble finding the correct kit for my truck. lots of options but nothing direct. any ideas helpful. also any ideas on how square up the cab? it shifted slightly, a 1/4 inch and wont move back. i am to the point where i might just leave it. by the way i used a log on a floor jack to lift the cab. it gave the height and width for clearance from the jack.

ranch-veteran,

So, besides moving the cab a quarter inch, what, exactly, are you looking for?

You're replying to several-year-old threads, I doubt many people are going to go re-read them to figure out what you're talking about and what you're after.
