Texture is smooth. After each coat, i wiped it because the paint gives off metal flakes. The last coat i waited an hour then wiped.

I may paint the bumper too, because it looks a bit off now.

There was a red dent at SEMA this year with the aluminum grill surround painted to match the body color. My 76 is in the paint booth as we speak and Im thinking about going this route. Has anyone else seen it done and if so how did it look?

I remember posting this somewhere on FTE, thought it was in this thread, but I guess not.
76 F250. Used Krylon Metallic Shimmer and flat black. Headlight buckets are black spray-on bedliner. Blacked out all vertical bars for that smooth horizontal look.

That's not really executing the technique outlined in this thread. Yer just painting it all silver... like how the 73 inserts came from the factory.

yeah but you have seen how the inserts look after 40 years so just silver metalic paint would look good, plus i suck at masking off things

Then there is room for improving your technique, dexterity, and attention to detail... or lack thereof, right?

I loved this idea so I decided to give it a try on my 79 insert. I'll post a before and after picture of it installed when I get it put on. I love how it turned out though.

Excellent work.

I think you'll be amazed at how **crisp** the front end will look after it is installed.

While everyone is showing off their grills, I might as well show off mine ;D

I like the raccoon looking headlight buckets as well!

I used Krylon Fusion Plastic paint after epoxying up the broken parts together... and then using Krylon Fusion Clear Sparkle over top! Keep the eye looking at the grill, and not the rest of my Heap

A Before Pic

And a Now Pic after I put my foot through it thinking it was the bumper... Which I did when I installed the EFI and hopped in and out from under the hood like a thousand times...
