406/427 exhaust manifolds

I would love to have a pair of 406/427 bananas for my 390
F-100. Is this a possibility. Seems like the flow would be much better than the logs and better for heat control/loud headers. My Bronco is loud (sets off car alarms) and I would like my F100 to walk softly and carry a big stick. I'm getting old. What do you all think?

They can be found, if you're willing to pay the price. Look in classifieds catering to Galaxies, and in eBay. You may need to notch the frame rail on the passenger side, but they should fit.

Right side frame rail clearence is an issue but better than notching is to heat it and roll it up to form a lip. I wish I had a set of these as well. You would think someone would make them aftermarket!

Thanks for the reply's. William, I have read several of your other posts on your exhaust set up. Are you going to use the standard logs? They seem awful. I hope to find a pair of these cast iron 427 jobs. If I can't, I guess I will look into some tri-y's with ceramic coating for heat control. Seems like an awful lot of money for 15 more horses? There is a lot to be said for heat control and piece and quiet too.

Hey Ken, I think that we are all getting old. Some of us just don't want to admit it.

406/427 exhaust manifolds

I am currently using stock 2 1/4 inch log manifolds. Exhaust system is 2 1/4 inch dual to a Flowmaster 70 series with single 3 inch out the back behind the right rear tire. This combination is pleasantly quiet, but drones just a bit. I plan to add an equalizer tube under the oil pan soon hoping the drone noise improves. I believe the cast iron headers from 406/427 would really be a great improvement but I think they are to expensive and I do not spin this truck much more than 3500 RPM. I am also a member of the "old Timers group". Hate change, technology, cheap beer and progress. Firmly stuck in the 60s and happy there!

Cool 406/427 exhaust manifolds

Just a suggestion, you could try a set of industrial manifolds off a 330/361/391. They flow about as good as shortys but aren't loud. Only problem is your pipes attach to the center. I built motor mounts to make them fit.
