Find local Guru or Mechanic
Hi All,
I am new to this forum. And, thanks for this forum and to Goochs procedure....I followed it a couple years back. I am quite past due for a flush, can someone recommend a local mechanic by me, Oceanside CA? I don't have time to perform the flush this time around. I have a couple questions:
Do the "professionals" perform a complete system flush with their machine? (I don't recall the name) As I have asked several compaies if there procedure includes removing the block plugs....the answer has always been no. Therefore, I wonder what is the difference in procedures, "professional/shop" vs home and Goochs procedure.

I had Ford do it once and they used a commercially available system cleaner. Which is interesting because they also have a Ford cleaner for that.

what kind of pressure they using.. my hose bib has about 55 lbs of pressure according to a screw on pressure gauge.
my truck 2003 SD with 168K had water pump replaced at 75K according to PO. don't see any issues with pump leaking but do see the gold ford coolant.
So I was figuring with almost 100K on pump it might be good time to replace pump, flush, replace coolant with shell rotella ultra ELC @ $22.49 gallon, and do the hoses both new style upper, lower and reservoir tank while doing this deal.
found the bus supply place selling the 444e cast iron water pump and they carry the 205 t-stat as well. (not on the website yet just ask) asked about the filters and was told there is like no margin in them so they don't carry them.
figure this was a good place to start the process of changing out all fluids and doing upgrades.

Thanks to Stewart and his recommendation on Cheveron Delo HD ELC I found a case of it:
The p/n is: 227808-497. The -497 indicates the container it comes in. In this case it is, Six one gallon containers.
Source: SoCo Group.
Location: Escondido, Ca; Orange, Ca; El Cajon??, Ca;
Link to the datasheet is below. Not sure if it will post as a link though. If not, copy and paste from the h (in https) to the F (in PDF).

Thanks for any help. By the way I searched the IDI section and found nothing...

My bad, I should have been more specific.
Because International changed stuff from the E99 to the L99 allowing the 7.3L PSD to run a HD ELC, I "default" to anything made prior to the L99 shouldn't run ELC, because it hasn't been spec'd for ELC like the newer trucks have.

A question about flushing with the T.
I have my outside water turned off and my hoses are empty, but frozen curled up. There's gold coolant in there now. I have to replace the water pump cover so figured I might as well convert now.
So the question:
What am I giving up if I drain the fluid, remove the thermostat and the fill with distilled water, then drive around with the front/rear heat on for 5 min and repeat 4x?
The idea is to get the RPMs up some so the clean water builds some pressure going through the system to hopefully carry away some abrasives.
Then add 4 gal of concentrate, and top off with distilled.
Woops:
The reply below was for me. I referenced the issue with the early '99 7.3 and realized it was wrong, so changed to the question above. After I changed it, I saw the reply....
