Blown rear window.

This morning when I started my truck and closed the door heard a pop. The left glass from the 3 piece rear shattered.
How do I go about fixing this? I called Safelite and they want almost $600.

Insurance. How much is your deductible?

I keep my comprehensive at $100 just for glass.

I don't think I would put duct tape on a $50k truck that only has 4000 miles, but thanks for the tip.

I've read out this issue in multiple places. Perhaps Ford has an TSB or internal doc on this that you can get it fixed and covered by Ford?

There is a history of back window shattering in cold weather. The stories I remember read like yours with the closing of the door. Might be worthwhile searching this site, and others, for final resolution other people were able to get.

Took it to one dealer and they didn't even want to look at it, they said to take to selling dealer. Took it to selling dealer and they didn't want to look at it either, they said there's no warranty on glass.
Sent a PM to Chrystal to see what can she do.

Was 7 this morning here, don't know how cold Florida was when this happened. Usually the windows cracking in cold already have a crack on the windshield from road debris, or they are side windows where water freezes in the rubber seal. Rarely do we see a rear window crack . (Take reports from people who think someone tried to break jn when they find the windows cracked) Also less than a handful of these reports in 25 years. Usually the neighbor kid broke it somehow. Or heat on first warm spring days gets the side windows when left in sun. Weird stuff.

Get too hot? Seems to be what they are saying. Defroster on?

Could've been, I remote started the truck and the defroster might have turned on automatically.
My 2006 PSD heated mirrors are always on and never had a problem with overheating.
This is the first truck with a rear defroster.

The rear window blow out is somewhat common. The F150 forum has multiple people complaining about it. It has to do with the defroster.

Finally after taking it to 3 dealers got it fixed. This dealer actually knew about the problem.
