Were you checking pressure on the low side or the high side?
If your low pressure is going high, it's most likely because of lack of airflow through the condenser.
If the high side is going too high, it is probably due to a restriction in the system, usually at the fixed orifice. Recover the system and remove the valve and inspect. Metal debris indicates a failed compressor. Grit or sand-like material is usually due to dessicant failure in the accumulator.
