spongy brakes

I had a leaky brake line behind the gas tank on my 2000 f250 superduty and in the process of fixing that I ended up changing all my calipers and brakes. I've bled the lines and there is no air left in the lines but the brakes are still soft is there something else that needs to be bled. PS I think all brake fluid leaked on the floor when the line broke. Thanks in advance.

You may still have a bubble that is floating in the system- keep bleeding!

Is the pedal slow to return? Mine was spongy and slow to return. It ended up being a rear shoe that would hang up.

I'll try bleeding it again and see if that gets it. I don't think it a shoe as it is 4 disc brake all round

Did the master cylinder reservoir run dry? If so then you are going to have to bench bleed the master cylinder to get all the air out of it.

I used the open m/c cap and bleeder value and have a beer method that was described in one of the threads here and that seems to have got it. Must of had a bubble somewhere. Thanks guys.

A year old thread.
But my 85 Ford has the same. I have new brake shoes and rotors and drums. Master cylinder and (used) booster replaced. I still have soft brakes. I do not want to pull my car hauler with it. I'm just leery they are not grabbing enough.
I have bled the lines so many times i have nothing but clean fluid coming out. Could the portioning valve be the problem?

Well, either the master brake cylinder is beginning to fail, the booster has a leak or the most likely is an air bubble that is floating in the system....find a mechanic who has a pressure bleeder....that will force it out.

Same question: Did you bench bleed the master cylinder?

Also, are the rear brakes adjusted correctly?

I will check the adjustments late. Had surgery on arms now. Heal them first.
When bleeding the fluid comes out steady. It was bench bled also.
