anyone ever use this additive in your 4r100 auto?

I am going to change the fluid in the tranny, 01 excursion 7.3, and the guy I know at the parts store said to use this to help reduce heat build up

Also I am going to use this fluid

Anyone else ever use these? Thanks.

My advice would be not to use it. I'd switch to fully synthetic fluid first. Secondly, I'd advise ignoring anything the parts store has to say except "That'll be xxxxx dollars and cents." They still try to sell me carb cleaner, or new spark plugs even though I'm buying 15qts of diesel rated oil and a diesel power magazine. Not the sharpest tools in the shed there. Ok, the carb cleaner could be handy to clean other things, but you get the point.

Usually when somebody adds some "magic" additive, its to try and fix something. So, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

somebody more knowledgeable than me (ie resident tranny god Mark K.) to correct me, but this is my stance on any additive oil related. I occasionally add some diesel kleen to the FUEL in the winter for anti gellilng, but that is about it.

The only thing that goes in my 4R100 is Mercon V.

Addatives are, at best, just a gimmic IMHO.

You use Mercon V? Our 01 excursion owners manual says only Mercon, this is the 7.3 diesel. Is it different for the gas engine rigs?

mercon V has replaced plain mercon as the required fluid. there was a TSB about it some time back.

If the packaging says the fluid meets mercon requirements (not the additive ) then it should be ok?

Sorry to keep beating this but mercon V is a synthetic base fluid that can now be used in applications that used to only allow mercon? If so I will pick that up on my way home for use tonight.

I've used that additive before as a patch before I sold a vehicle. If you don't have a issue I wouldn't encourage one.

Lol I was in a bind sold the truck I had... Bought a truck cheap with a "bad tranny". Changed the fluid and filter, adjusted the detent cable where is whould be added two bottles and drove it for 6mos. The truck was a pile had a bent frame amongst other issues... Cleaned it up put some wheels and tires on it charged the a/c and doubled my money. Had a few friends that wanted to buy it... I wouldn't sell it to them. Sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do. This is why you need to know about what your looking at. I've seen the blazer driving around for the last 2 yrs. I bought the blazer for less than $600 bucks and sold it for $1800. There is not a lot you can expect for a running vehicle with a/c and 4x4 for that kind of money much less one that looked pretty nice.

I changed it last night with mercon v. Pulled the pan, torque convert had a drain plug Ans put a john Wood valve body in it (from riffraff diesel ). I Put 17 quarts back into it for now but do you just start it up and let it idle or hold the brake and shifts through the gears? Pain in the *** reading the dip stick.
I also have an inline filter that I want to put after the cooler but where is a good place to put it?

Anyone know where this came from?

I had drained the torque converter, valve body and the internal filter into a plastic oil catch pan and then drained into a bucket that is when I saw this screen.

That screen goes between the valve body and the main accumulator body. It must have dropped out when you pulled the old one.
