Unhappy Not starting....

2004 6.0l PSD, auto, 107k miles.

Alrighty, the usual story, running great and all that, no issues, come out to move the truck in the driveway, no joy. Starter spins the motor with light black smoke coming out of the tail pipe. After a few cycles of letting it glow and then attempting start, it'll start to spin up like it's catching, bit more black smoke associated with it, but still won't take off of the starter and goes back to cycling with out trying to fire off.

I regrettably attempted a very small blast of ether (not a fan of that approach).....zero impact. The black smoke coming out of the pipe is not as heavy as I would expect for 8 cylinders, but it's consistent. No white smoke or any other smoke of any color other than black. Smells of diesel smoke....

I'm going to change out the fuel filters first chance i get tomorrow, but would love any insight.

Refer to the tech folder for a good FICM repair procedure if you are handy with a soldering iron/pen
