Vertical clearance on a 79 Bronco.
I am going to get some 39's for my bronco and I am wondering if anyone knows the stock clearance for my bronco and the maximum distance between the stock height and the height I can go? I dont want to get these tires, and get pulled up everywhere I go.
Im in Salt Lake City if that helps.
Thanks for any input.

Well, the biggest size RECOMMENDED for the 78-79 Bronco with stock suspension is 33". Some people have reported being able to stuff 35"s under without rubbing, others report that they do indeed rub, I think it just depends on how much the suspension sags, I wouldnt risk it.
For 39" tires you will need a minimum of a 4" lift, I would recommend a 6" lift to cover all bases on the possibility of rubbing. Jeffs Bronco Graveyard sells some good complete lift kits for this application - I would NOT go with blocks for ANY suspension lift, let alone 6 inches of it - very dangerous!
Good luck and have fun!

Tire rubbing also depends on rim size and backspacing. I had 33"x12.5" tsl super swampers on fairly narrow steel rims (not sure what width exactly) and they will rub on a hard turn. Stock ride hieght. 2" of lift didnt make any difference either. Of course you can adjust your steering stops to not let you turn that far.
BTW, petersons 4wheel magazine did an article a couple years ago on a 78 or 9 bronco trying to fit 37.5"x12.5 tires on it. They used a 4.5" lift and really cut open the fenders with a saw. I would definately not exceed that tire size without more lift... but like I said there are other factors. I am a bit advocate on keeping the lift just enough to fit the tires.

Tire rub ---
All stock suspension.
I have been running 33x1250x15 MT Baja Claws on 15x10 since 2006 on 2 different broncos (1 a 78 and 1 a 79) Generic 33s on 15x8 on 3 different f150 ( 2 a 77 and 1 a 79). I have NEVER had tire rub. These were daily drivers with some offroad. Mistly trail and mud in Michigan. Farm fields and OHV trails in northern MI doing trail maintenance for the upcoming winter season. I have no experience in rock or dessert.

my 79 has 35 and they only rub at full lock when turning. I have dual shocks up front and a 3 inch body lift. Stock suspension. My old 78 had a 4 inch lift and cleard 35s no issue. It did rub when you turned full **** on one side but not the other. I had single shock setup on that one but if i remember correctly the shocks are on different sides of the coil springs. which is why it only rubbed one way.
