Numberdummy help, Y Block bellhousing same as 223

Ok I am a idiot with a question, will a Y Block and a 223 Inline six use the same bellhousing? I read somewhere before that they did interchange but now I am unsure. It is a truck bellhousing with the motor mounts and is probably for a 223.

While you can't really trust this info 100%, it looks like the 223 and other sixes had a different pattern than the Y.

List of Ford bellhousing patterns - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They get the SBF/240-300 right, the 335/385 right, perhaps they have the earlier six/Y correct also????

LOL, that site lists the early Flat V8's as having the same bellhousing pattern as late. The early engines had integral bellhousings, the late did not, so how could they be the same? Splitting hairs? I don't know, but I would be skeptical of their list.

Trev, as I recall, you are trying to determine if an O/D trans from a 6 will fit a Y? (or vice versa) If so, you can keep your bell and bolt the tranny up to it, but make sure the trans input spline count is right and the length of the input is the same.

Not the same.

B8C7505A .. Bellhousing / Fits: 1957/64 F100/250 223 w/3 speed S/T // 1957/64 F100 w/3 speed O/D.

B8C7505B .. Bellhousing / Fits: 1957/64 F100/250 272/292 w/3 speed S/T // 1957/64 F100 w/3 speed O/D.

I wouldn't trust anything Wiki Wiki sez. If you want the facts, look in the apropos Ford parts catalog.
