1965 RADIO

HI,

I NEED THE PART NUMBER FOR THE STOCK 1965 RADIO FOR A 65 F100?

ALSO, ARE OTHER FORD CAR RADIOS INTERCHANGEABLE W/O MODS?

WHAT ABOUT A FACTORY 8TRACK FROM A 66 MUSTANG?

THANKS,

MIKE

Yes, I have an old tape deck in my dash. Would love to get part/order info for a cool old radio. My 67 Mustang has a stock radio still in it. When I was looking to upgrade I saw new versions of the old same (looked like stock but had iPod, CD, etc) ... but I just got a new deck and hid it under the dash and operate it with a remote.

Any good ideas or pictures of things you all have done?

As far as getting a radio I bet your best bet is to buy a used one. I doubt you could find a new one unless you paid big bucks. Then it still might could cause problems from the capacitors drying out over time.As far as upgrading and having them retrofitted for Ipod Its pricey from what I have seen,400 up the ones I have run across. I worked on radios years ago so I just rebuilt mine. I tuned it up and it sounded great but I wanted to customize the sound. So I added a reverb unit from the 60s I had. It gave me two outputs, front and back. Then I added a power booster I got off ebay for 5 bucks that was a early 70s model. Then I got a new 6 inch speaker set. I fixed one up under the radio, it fit in the original space. I made a speaker box for the other one to go behind the seat. since I wanted more than just AM I added a FM converter I had lying around. I then got a usb to FM mp3 player from walmart. So for about 75 bucks I got a 60s reverb type sound for my truck. It really gets attention at shows, most people do not know they existed let alone ever hear one. You can see the setup at

The truck radio is unique. I've not found anything else that will fit without butchering the dash.

The a.m. stations are useless in my neck of the woods. Decided to keep the original and look into installing a separate radio in the glove compartment. Also, like the idea another member mentioned installing a system where only need to plug in MP3 or something simular.

There are also a few restoration specialists who can take the stock radio and turn it into a AM/FM radio along with a MP3 jack while retaining the stock look.

This is the part number for an antenna, not the radio.

The correct part number for the antenna is C3AZ18813C / Reproduced by Carpenter.

Fits: 1961/64 Ford Galaxie / 1961/66 F100/1100 / 1961/69 N/NT500/1000 / 1967/69 F800/1000.

Well, my dash is already hacked up. There's a fat ol tape deck in the middle of the dash, just to the left of the ashtray. The hole is way bigger than the original stock radio. *****, nice pic! Nice dash! Wow, your interior looks really great. I have to admit I was a bit envious! I suppose since the damage is already done in mine, I might as well take the liberty that the big hole provides to put in whatever I want.

I also have a CB with CB handset hanger mounted right into the front of the ashtray.

If you want to go back with the original I have known of some that would trim the hole and then weld in a new piece. As far as original type radios go if you can find one of he old 70s type radios they sound great. You might could even put in one of the late 90s digital types. They sound good as well. I had a late 90s in a overhead console about 10 years ago. If someone doesn't want to cut holes in a original dash a overhead console fits good overhead. Another option thats really nice is to find a old cab. Then cut out the area just below the speedometer that has all the *****. Its beter to get extra then trim what you don't need. Then you can use that as a basis for a under dash console add on. The one I saw looked like it was made from the factory. Thanks for the complements on mine.

Faced w/ same dilemma, on 1 of the 65's the prior owner cut the dash and installed some cheapo cassette player. Now that the hole is there may just find a good system to fill the void. Another option; installed later model Lariat seats with the fold down center piece in the other 65 and considering installing small system as mentioned by tbm3fan. Like the ideal of the overhead console, there's a great feature article, pic's included, in Classic Truck Magazine yr. or so ago with complete redue of the interior on a 66 F100, it would be nice for owner intending to show their rides.
