OBS DIY Intake

I bought the parts yesterday to get this job done, but I took a slightly different approach than most of the DIY setups you see. I already had some 4" exhaust tubing with a 45° bend in it, so I bought the same filter, filter holder, and rubber boot that the Tymar intake uses (yes, the exact same parts). I also bought some T-bolt clamps, I decided not to use constant torque clamps because (1) they were twice as expensive (and my wife about **** herself when I told her what I had spent already) and (2) I'm not 100% convinced that the constant torque clamps are necessary.

$118 worth of parts from Air Flo Systems.

The lovely stock OBS intake (with a K&N hiding inside the airbox )

What I did with the IAT sensor

This hose coming from the vac pump was touching the rubber boot that couples the 4" exhaust tubing to the CCV housing.

Shortened the hose a bit

Much better

Finished product

Its not 100% perfect at the moment but it was getting late last night and I wanted to get it back together. I cut the exhaust tubing just a little too long and the hood hinge lightly rubs the filter when I close the hood, but other than that I'm pretty happy with it.

That's because it IS exactly like a Tymar Except he uses constant torque clamps, I just used T-bolt clamps.

Question

Nice work. Where did you get the big clamp for the filter?, and where or how did you attached it to support the filter?

It just wraps around the filter and gives the filter a place to rest so its about an inch or so above the fender well instead of resting right on it.

All the parts came from Air Flo Systems, same place Tymar buys his parts I'm pretty certain. And James is right, the clamp just slides over the filter to give it a little clearance on the bottom. Necessary? No I don't think so. But Dale @ Tymar is adamant that it is needed for proper radial clearance/performance. I figured why not buy it and use it.

Air Flo Systems
Could I have bought the Tymar kit and spent less? Probably, but I already had the exhaust tubing so I just bought what I needed and put it all together.

Chase, did u mount that clamp anywhere to prevent the filter from bouncing around? Thats why Dale uses it, it actually bolts to my battery tray.

Yes this was what I wanted to know. I fixed, my custom clamp, in one of the supports for the old crap intake.

When I did mine I had to push it in and under the top fender edge so it did not need any clamps.

That's how mine is. Mine even sits at a little angle up in there to help clear my IC tubes.

He only mounts it to the battery tray in the SD's. Something to do with the way the wheel well is shaped, the filter clamp doesn't have to be secured in the OBS. But when he was testing on the SD's he found that it needed to be secured.
